Japanese Fall Collections Haul

A dear friend in Japan was kind enough to help me out with another CP that landed speedily on my doorstep this afternoon, thanks to Japan Post's super-efficient EMS service! I haven't tried out any of the items yet but they all looked so pretty, I thought I'd post pics first and then detailed reviews later.

Here's the whole haul, including some items for my buddy, Fleckenschnitte! Do check out her wonderfully informative blog on Korean and Japanese makeup and skincare.

Canmake Color Strip Palette #2 and #3: I'm not usually big fan of Canmake although I loved their Cheek Gradation #4 Chocolate, which I CP'd dozens of pieces for various ladies on Cozycot and MUA. But these new Color Stripe Palettes looked interesting when I saw them on the website, plus they were super cheap at only 924yen each so I added two of them to my CP list. Just looking at the shades in the pan, they look highly wearable with a fair amount of fine shimmer. No chunky glitter, which is good. I especially like the look of #3 which has a lovely plum burgundy and an antique bronze shade that I can't wait to try out.

Awake Moon Illusion Eye Stardom X1 Forest Shadows: I didn't really like the fact that these palettes had two very pale white/off-white shades each, which to me is a bit of a waste as I prefer having a more varied selection of bright or dark colors to play with. The dark liner shade in these palettes are also more matte finish, although the eggplant shade in X1 has some shimmer. The golden white shade in the top left of X1 looks intensely sparkly so that should be interesting to play around with.

Moon Illusion Eye Stardom X2 Nocturnal Rose

Love Clover Pon Pon Cheek PC N #5124: the pink metal tub packaging was just too adorable to resist!

Majolica Majorca Majolook Trick On GR750 and BR751: These are for Flecks :-)

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact Illuminance 101 Platinum Illuminance: These are so pretty that I think I'll keep them for awhile just to admire them in their perfect pristine state. I like the new lace inset in the cover. The metal case of the brush also has a more elaborate design imprinted on it compared to the regular Mix Blush Compact brushes.

Mix Blush Compact Illuminance 102 Gold Illuminance

Jill Stuart Illuminance Eyes #1 Jewel Dress: I was worried that this was going to be another boring pink palette after seeing some photos online but in person, it turned out to be much prettier than I expected. The three shades from the right side of the palette are noticeably less glittery and sparkly than the Brilliance Eyes palettes but the extreme left shade has an intense shimmer. Unlike most other Jill Stuart palettes, this palette lacks a dark liner shade but the greyish mauve on the extreme right looks lovely nonetheless.

Illuminance Eyes #3 Brocade Gold

Illuminance Eyes #4 Aqua Crystal

Laneige Fall '08

I just received a mailer from Laneige for their Fall '08 Snow Magic collection makeup event and it's sparked off more new lemmings! The details of the collection are not yet available on the Laneige Singapore website but I found these pics from the Taiwan website.

The collection includes two Snow Magic Eyeshadow Boxes each with 3 eyeshadows, a two-layered Snow Magic Light Face Box with three highlighter shades and three blush shades (peach, pearl and pink), and a Snow Magic Powder Box that features a quad of face powders (snow white, powder yellow, pale pink) each with a different textures such as soft glow, highlight, moisturised. All the compacts come with brushes, which makes them very convenient for touch-ups on the go, as well as a cute snowflake charm. I can foresee I'm going to haul the whole collection if they look as good in person as they do on the website!

The Laneige counter at BHG department store in Bugis will have an exclusive cocktail party on 16 August from 2pm to 4pm with a makeup demonstration by their Korean makeup artist. In addition, there is supposed to be a 20% discount off Laneige products and a 7-piece GWP and handbag with $150 purchase. You can also receive an luggage bag if you spend $200. Call 6835-9772 to book a place.

Shu Uemura Instinct

Shu Uemura's fall collection, Instinct, has arrived in Singapore! I happened to pass by the counter in Isetan Scotts and saw the collection on display. Like the US, the collection released in Singapore features the eyeshadow duos instead of the cream eyeshadow singles and powder eyeshadow singles in the Japanese collection.

I've got my eye on the Mystifier duo (US$36, S$58) which features a blackened emerald cream shade and a very pigmented golden brown shade. The powder eyeshadow in the Tantalizer duo (with the light green cream shade) looked very similar to the one in Mystifier but the SA showed me that the Tantalizer powder eyeshadow actually applies much more sheer than the Mystifier powder eyeshadow. I'm probably going back to haul Mystifier soon! It's not cheap at S$58 (for a few bucks more, one can get a MAC quad) but I guess it's still more affordable than buying the cream eyeshadow single (2940yen) and powder eyeshadow single (2415yen) individually from Japan.

Dick Page x Shiseido

I'm not sure how this happened but I think Dick Page himself just left a comment on my earlier post on Shiseido The Makeup's Fall'08 collection! Read what he said here :-)

The collection has not been launched in Singapore yet but I'll definitely be checking it out when it lands here!

Love Clover Marshmallow Fit Powder N

Love Clover has updated its website with the new Marshmallow Fit Powder N (2100yen). It is a loose powder for setting makeup and reducing the appearance of pores. It has a soft velvety texture and skin treatment ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, rosemary extract and kiwi extract, plus it is fragrance-free and does not contain mineral oil.

It comes in 4 shades. #5191 Non Color and #5194 Champagne Silver are suitable for oily skin types as they contain "globular silicone powder" and "clear keep powder" for a long-lasting smooth finish. #5192 Light Ochre and #5193 Natural Ochre are suitable for dryer skin types as they contain a "reflect powder" and aloe vera compound to help keep skin moisturised and looking more translucent.

Chicca Romance Mission

Kanebo's high-end prestige brand for mature ladies in their 50s and older, Chicca, launched its new fall collection, Romance Mission on 6 August in Japan. It features dramatic rich shades of purple and red that are perfect for fall, and also quite unusual for a Japanese makeup brand. Most Japanese makeup brands are marketed towards younger women who tend to favour soft pastel and neutral shades that are easy to wear. Chicca (pronounced "ki-ka") is currently available only in two locations in Japan, Isetan department store in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Umeda Hankyu department store in Osaka.

The collection includes:

1. Enthralling Powder Eye Shadow (7350yen): #18 Night Glow, #19 Evening Party, #20 Tete-a-tet, #21 Love Avenue, #22 Mysterious Love. The shade on the left side of each palette is the "light shade" to be used as the base or highlighter while the shade on the right side is the "shadow shade".

2. Enthralling Soft Pencil Eyeliner (4200yen): #1 Bluish Grey Point, #2 Dark Green Point, #3 Taupe Point, #4 Violet Point and #5 Copperish Point

3. Enticing Lip Stain (3150yen): #5 Kira Kira Sweet, #6 Hazelnut, #7 Kira Kira Raisin, #8 Deep Claret and #9 Kira Kira Dark Berry.

4. Enticing Lip Gloss (4200yen): #8 Gooseberry Purple, #9 Butterscotch, #10 Cassis Rose, #11 Deep Cranberry and #12 Star Grape

All the items are permanent.

Demise of Raycious

A notice has been posted on the Raycious website that sales of Raycious products will be ceased with effect from 25 August. Raycious has been one of Kao Sofina's main drugstore brands focused on base makeup, in addition to Fine Fit. Raycious was well-known for its illuminating foundations that focused on creating the look of glowy skin. Personally, I liked Revue's powder foundations much better than Raycious, which did not have as good coverage as Revue. Nevertheless, I am sad to see another Japanese brand bite the dust. It's almost like seeing an old friend disappear.

Raycious will be replaced by Prima Vista, another "no print price" brand, which means that Japanese drugstores will not be able to discount it... which is a shame from the consumers' point of view. The ad visuals for Prima Vista are some of the most boring that I've ever seen from a Japanese brand!

Beaute de Kose Website Update

The Beaute de Kose website has been updated with the Fall'08 collection, which was released on 1 August in Japan.

The collection includes:

1. Metallic Lustre Eyes 001 Sparklet Silver and 002 Sparklet Gold (5040yen)

2. Eye Fantasist GY059 Metallic Grey and BE354 Pearl Beige (2625yen)

3. Rouge Fantasist Aqua Vinyl BE385 Nougat Beige and PK890 Fairly Pink (2940yen)

4. Nail Dramatist OR203 Coral Glow, RO603 Sugar Plum and PK816 Cherry Lustre (1575yen)

All the items are limited edition. The Metallic Lustre Eyes were already in stock at the Beaute de Kose counter at Metro Paragon a week ago but they didn't look that impressive in person so I didn't bother to test them.

Dior Dandy Lady Haul

Dior's fall'08 collection, Dandy Lady started arriving at the counters in Singapore over the past couple of weeks. Intrigued by the gorgeous ad visual, I attended a preview party organised by Robinson's department store but left without getting anything as the makeup demonstration didn't manage to convince me that the items were impressive enough to warrant the high price tag.

But the collection remained stuck in my head after that and then one evening, I happened to watch the video of the shooting of the ad visual and the makeup used on model Jessica Stam just looked stunning, all smokey perfection, that I promptly reserved most of the collection at Tangs. I finally picked up the items earlier this week.

The Dior staff at the Tangs counter was nice enough to keep the last remaining set of their GWP (with purchase of S$250) for me. The GWP comprised of the HydraAction Hydra-Respect Cleansing Foam 50ml, HydraAction Deep Hydration Lotion I 50ml, HydraAction Deep Hydration Radical Serum 10ml, HydraAction Deep Hydration Creme Gel 15ml and a super-cute mini 5-Colour Eyeshadow #970 Stylish Move. When I picked up my items, the SA also threw in a J'Adore EDT sample and the Eau Magique Demaquillage (Cleansing Water for Face and Eyes) 15ml.

I got the Impression Cuir (S$76), the 5-Color Eyeshadow #673 Earth Tones (S$87) and 5-Color Eyeshadow Iridescent #539 Iridescent Leather (S$87). On a whim, I also got the Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen #2 Candlelight (S$55).

What impressed me about the eyeshadow palettes was the silky and pigmented texture. While I'm not usually a big fan of browns and neutral tones, the Leather palette has been garnering many raves on Makeupalley so I decided to pick it up. After trying it for the first time today, I would rate it about 4 stars out of 5. The shades all complement one another very well and it's very easy to create a gradational look. The light highlighter shades have just the right amount of shimmer without being too frosty while the darker shades were very velvety and easy to blend.

There is no chunky glitter in the eyeshadows, only a smooth glimmer that is not too over the top or sparkly so it's suitable for work. I did not experience any fallout, fading or creasing even after more than 8 hours of wear. This palette is a great option if you want an elegant, classy look without having to think too much about how to combine the different shades. The only drawback is the price, which for me is quite exorbitant as it's even more expensive than Chanel!

On the other hand, I was less impressed by the Impression Cuir. I liked the python print effect on the surface but I was disappointed to discover that the pretty shimmer on the middle brown shade does not go all the way through. I hate it when cosmetic companies mislead you by spraying a shimmer overlay on the surface that does not go all the way through. The shimmer rubs off almost immediately to reveal a much less shimmery medium brown shade below. The texture of the eyeshadow is of the same excellent standard as the 5-Colours Iridescent palettes, very smooth, silky and pigmented. But I felt that the colours, while flattering with a nice warmth that would suit most skintones, are not that unique and can easily be duped with shades from other brands for much cheaper. You do get a lot of product (10g), which is about the equivalent of about 6 MAC eyeshadows, so it will take pretty much forever to use up.

I haven't tested out the Earth Tones palette yet. As for the Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen, it provides a decent amount of coverage for my dark circles with some illuminating effect that helps me to look more awake. But it was not pigmented enough to cover up my dark circles completely and, sadly speaking, I could still see some fine lines. But I liked the light creamy texture which is easy to apply and blend to a natural finish.

My buddy, the Muse, has written an excellent review of it comparing it with YSL's Touche Eclat, which I highly recommend reading.
