Shu Uemura: R.I.P.

Some of you may know this already... Shu Uemura, the most celebrated Japanese makeup maestro, passed away on 29 December of pneumonia. The news of his passing came as a shock to me and it's just incredibly sad as Shu Uemura (the brand) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his flagship boutique on Omotesando (Tokyo's equivalent of the Champs Elysee) in 2008 with its Susabi campaign.

Like Kevyn Aucoin, Uemura will be dearly missed by many.

Wow...just wow...words can't express how sad it is to see the passing of a great maestro. May he rest in peace.

What is the Susabi campaign? Will it be celebrated all year round? I will be in Tokyo in the beginning of April and be definitely popping in the Omotesando boutique! It's like mothership calling me home :)

I was so sorry to hear about his death. What did he die from? The article I read didn't say.

He was still a busy man right until the end. About a year ago, I read an article in W magazine discussing some new endeavor his company was undertaking. I think it was a spa of some sort.

RIP, Mr. Uemura. :(

The Susabi campaign will be year-round and it will feature limited edition products, GWPs, lucky draws etc.

Uemura died of acute pneumonia. The makeup on the model in the current Spring'08 "Rebirth" campaign was also done by him.
