Last October, Stila created two palettes in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month. Empowered in Pink was an Ulta-exclusive while Positive & Pretty was available on Stila's own website.
Of the two, I found Empowered in Pink to be more special with its muted dusky pinks, plum and deep lavender eyeshadows.
The pink blushes give the cheeks a nice healthy pop of colour. Pink is a soft matte while Ribbon is slightly brighter with silver micro-flecks of shimmer, nothing too frosty or glittery.
These swatches were done on bare skin without any primer. Most of the shades require a few layers to show up well.
Here's a simple look that I did using NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.
The eyeshadows in Positive & Pretty worked much less well with my skintone. Passion disappears almost completely into my skin while Gift just adds a shimmery sheen. Positive takes on an orange tone on my skin. Beauty is just a standard chocolate shade that feels dry and kicks up a lot of loose powder.
The blushes in Pretty and Empower have good colour payoff and last well over more than 12 hours of wear with just a bit of fading.
Used over the NARS primer, the eyeshadows also held up well without significant creasing or fading.
For both looks, I also used Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Liquid Foundation and Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Empire from the recent holiday collection. (Cafe Makeup has a good review on Empire.)
A "family photo" of the Stila beach and travel palettes that I collected in 2010 and 2011. It's missing a few palettes that were exclusive to certain department stores but nevertheless, I'm happy with my collection. The quality of the eyeshadows tends to be uneven without the buttery richness of Stila's regular bestsellers, but they still add good variety to one's makeup wardobe.
