The Body Shop Earth Lovers Shower Gels

This pretty picnic basket landed on my doorstep today, courtesy of The Body Shop!

Amidst the fresh cucumbers, lemons and pears was the Body Shop's new eco-friendly Earth Lovers line of 100% Biodegradable Shower Gels (how apt that this arrived on St Patrick's Day!). There are six yummilicious fruity fragrances to choose from, as well as a fragrance-free formula.

The shower gels are infused with a blend of herb and fruit extracts, plus Community Fair Trade organic aloe vera from Guatemala to help soften and moisturise the skin. They are also free of sulphates, colourants and parabens, making them suitable for sensitive skin. Instead, more natural foaming agents are used to create a delicate lather that is non-drying. Best of all, 100% of the ingredients are readily biodegradable, which means that the foaming agents break down quickly in the environment. The PET bottles are also recyclable.

The Body Shop has come up with some interesting pairings for this range, which makes for a nice departure from their earlier shower gels with a single fragrance note. Here's a quick run down:

Apricot & Basil: Apricot is good for softening, nourishing and moisturising the skin while basil is a cooling herb for relieving fatigue, balancing the mind and emotions, and improving the skin's texture.

Lemon & Thyme: Lemon helps to brighten and tone oily skin while thyme is an astringent, cleansing herb that helps to revive dull-looking skin.

Watermelon & Eucalyptus: Watermelon is rich in antioxidants and vitamins that help to nourish the skin while eucalyptus is a stimulating, purifying and cleansing herb that helps to perk up tired, dull skin.

Cucumber & Mint: Mint has antiseptic properties and helps to rejuvenate the skin while cucumber is known for its cooling and soothing properties.

Fig & Rosemary: Antioxidant-rich figs help exfoliate the skin while aromatic rosemary is a cleansing and restorative herb with astringent properties that help to tone and improve skin texture.

Pear & Lemongrass: Vitamin C-rich pear helps to soothe and rejuvenate the skin while lemongrass balances oily skin and lifts the spirits.

Pear & Lemongrass was the first one that I tried and I found being enveloped by the scent very relaxing. The scent lingers subtly on the skin post-shower. Despite being sulphate-free, I was pleased to discover that the shower gel does foam up easily, even without the help of a bath lily. I was also impressed that the shower gel left my skin soft without drying it out (whereas the Body Shop's regular shower gels tend to be a bit drying for my skin). The usual dry and itchy patches on my hands, legs and hips did not appear, even though I didn't apply a body moisturiser after my shower. Below is the ingredients list for the Pear & Lemongrass.

Also included in the basket was the new Moisture White Shiso BB Cream, Makeup Cleansing Oil and Foaming Facial Wash. I'll review these in greater detail after I've tried them out.

The Earth Lovers shower gels will be launched in Singapore on 24 March and retail for S$14.90 each. The Body Shop often has promotions and discounts for new product launches so do check it out if you get the chance!

hi evie,
No, I'm afraid not. The basket is a special touch by the PR company for the sample sets that they sent to media and some beauty bloggers.

The watermelon and eucalyptus sounds great. Nourishing and soothing all at once.

i'm glad to see that the body shop is finally catching up with more natural/organic/non-parabens (etc. i'm not so good at ingredients) formulations. they have been lagging behind for far too long; ironic given their history and corporate image. -h.

I'm looking forward to your review of the Moisture White Shiso BB Cream and Makeup Cleansing Oil.

Wow, TBS has jumped on the BB cream wagon too! :-)

I bought a couple of these at Centrepoint last week- they are gorgeous! So different smelling to the usual TBS lines. Can't wait for it to come out in Australia so I can get the rest.
