Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation

Inspired by extreme backstage conditions, Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation (US$59) SPF20 is touted as a "revolutionary new water-based foundation [that] provides 14-hour luminous matte coverage without the coverage feel". According to the Armani website, "the secret of Lasting Silk lies in a special high tech Microfil fine milling process that combines water essence, micronised optical effect particles high tech fitting silk and micro blend luminous pigments. These components morph into a barely perceivable seamless silk veil of infallible semi matte color that dresses the skin’s contours to perfection."

I actually purchased this last June but never got around to writing a proper review. As Lasting Silk UV was supposed to replace Hydra Glow, I was hoping that it would help to correct skin dullness while providing long lasting wear. The semi matte satin finish has more of a sheen than Suqqu Frame Fix Liquid Foundation.

Although it provided decent coverage and blended very easily to a smooth, lightweight finish, it didn't control oil as well as Suqqu Frame Fix. I had to blot pretty much hourly with this. Lasting Silk UV is probably more suitable for normal to dry skintypes rather than oily skintypes like mine. I'm using #5, which turned out to be a tad yellow for me so I'll probably pass this on to my mother as she has dry skin and is slightly more tanned.

The other products that I used for this look are: Shu Uemura Bowwow Magic Queen Palette and Face Powder Sheer Colorless, Urban Decay Primer Potion, K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 02, Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner, Esprique Precious True Black Mascara WP (Volume Separate) and Chantecaille Lip Chic in Heirloom.

I'm afraid I don't have the ingredients list as I discarded the box a long time ago. The active ingredients are listed as octinoxate (3%) and titanium dioxide (6.2%).

Nope, Armani makeup is not sold in Singapore though you can find it in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Or you can also try ordering from Nordstrom.com.

Hi

I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD DO A REVIEW ON THE SKIN CARE THAT YOU USE?

This looks so much better on you than the Suqqu one. The Suqqu one didn't even match your neck colour shown on my screen.

Suqqu one looks better.

Hi Haru
looks nice as usual though a tad "dark" due to shade mismatch. :) never mind, auntie can still use to airbrush beautifully hehe

Haru, do you think if u got the right shade, this giogio armani is wortht the splurge? so many models, makeup artist swear and love this brand and i wonder what's the hype actually? thanks! have a long good weekend :)

hi Tiffany,
Even with the right shade, I don't think this foundation is suitable for my skintype as it doesn't control oil well enough for me and I have to blot frequently. If you don't have oily skin, then this will probably work better for you.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend too!

Very nice, Iris; I like the fotd and how the foundation looks on you!

OH! I meant to say I love the lippy - the previous comment was meant for the Suqqu fotd, which I *love* (that'd teach me to open many tabs at one time, haha!).

Hi Iris, can you do a comparison between this LF and Lancome Miracle Teint LF in terms of the coverage (as in how well the foundie covers skin tone unevenness and redness), finish and lasting power? May I also know what shade you got for this LF?

GA has another LF called the Luminous Silk Foundation. I believe that is highly raved for it's oil control and finish. Did you get to test and compare this LF with what you bought Lasting Silk UV? Do you know what's the difference between these 2 foundie apart from the UV protection?

TIA!!

Good post about this Armani foundation. 14 hours? That's quite a long time.

hi Hannah,
I did not try Luminous Silk. Do check out the Armani foundation chart on Karlasugar.net for an explanation of the differences amongst the various Armani foundations:
http://karlasugar.net/2009/10/armani-foundation-chart/armani-foundation-map/

As stated in the post, I'm using #5 for Lasting Silk but it's a tad yellow for me. For Lancome Teint Miracle liquid foundation, I'm using O-03. Teint Miracle lasts better compared to the Armani Lasting Silk, but I still have to blot quite a bit. In terms of coverage and finish, the two are about the same. Both have a satin finish that is slightly glowy rather than flat matte.

I have tried both Luminous Silk Foundation and lasting UV versions in shade 5.5. IMO, for the high price, both delivered mediocre results and finish. I would say fdns like NARS sheer glow, Neutrogena Healthy Skin, Revlon Colourstay, Laura Mercier Silk Creme, Chanel Pro Lumiere delivered much better results. For GA, I still think their star products are the fluid sheers and loose powder.
