Operation Use It Up

Haven't done a post like this for awhile as March was a hectic month. Feels good to clear out another batch of products!

1. John Masters Organics Evening Primrose Shampoo for Dry Hair: This is supposed to be suitable for color-treated hair and is free of sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, GMOs, artificial color and fragrance, and petrochemicals. The scent was a bit too herbal for my liking and it left my hair slightly tangled.

2. Asience Conditioner: This may be too rich for some people but it works very well for softening and detangling my dyed hair.

3. Body Shop Sweet Lemon Whip Body Lotion: I liked the lemony scent which is not too generic. The non-greasy light texture also works well in Singapore's humid weather.

4. Hada Labo AHA/BHA Exfoliating Face Wash Foam: This has both glycolic acid and salicylic acid for improving skin clarity. The self-foaming face wash is a breeze to use as it rinses off easily without stripping the skin but I can't say that it did any miracles for improving my skin.

5. Dove Intense Repair Shampoo: One of the few shampoos that don't leave my hair a dry, tangled mess when I rinse it out.

6. Cleansing Express Eye Makeup Remover: This biphase eye makeup remover swiftly removes powder eyeshadow with a single swipe of the cotton pad. It takes a bit more soaking and gentle rubbing to thoroughly remove waterproof mascaras and eyeliners though. I would repurchase it.

7. Philosophy Amazing Grace Perfumed Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel: This has a clean, softly feminine scent but I don't like it enough to want to purchase a full size.

8. Soap & Glory Hair Supply: This has the same scent as Girligo. It is meant to be used as a intensive weekly treatment to keep hair smooth and shiny while coating and controlling split ends. However, this was just not conditioning enough for my hair.

9. H20+ Raspberry Guava Shower & Bath Gel: This has a sweet raspberry scent and conditioning vitamin E capsules to help moisturise skin. It lathers up easily and doesn't dry out my skin but I don't like the scent enough to want to repurchase it.

10. Aqualabel White Clear Foam: This has small particles in it to help exfoliate the skin but like many Japanese foaming cleansers, it left my skin feeling a bit tight.

11. Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen 002: I used this on my under eye area. It does provide some coverage but it doesn't last well throughout the day and tends to crease after a few hours.

I am now a devotee of the Cleansing Express eye makeup remover. I tried it after reading about it here and I am no longer afraid of the Japanese mascaras. It doesn’t sting my eyes like a lot of other removers have (including cleansing oils) and I don’t need to scrub my eyes to get mascara or eyeliner off like I had to before.

I am also in love with Asience - I have the nature smooth line. I have the exact condition it’s supposed to treat - scalp that gets oily easily, but dry ends (that’s caused by the coloring and perming). My hair doesn’t get tangled after shampooing.

hi Pam,
Glad to hear that the Cleansing Express works for you too! I used to use cleansing oils on my eyes but not anymore as I prefer a dedicated eye makeup remover that does need massaging and emulsifying. The Shu Uemura whitening cleansing oil also always left my eyes feeling very dry.

Japanese shampoos and conditioners like Asience and Tsubaki work really well for me, perhaps because they are formulated for a market where most people dye their hair frequently.

Doesn't it feel so great to finish products? If I had to describe it in one word it'd be...liberating :)

I feel the same way about Philosophy's Amazing Grace - I got a sample bottle from Sephora, but I wouldn't buy the full size because it's kind of average. On the other hand, Philosophy's gourmand shower gels... :D YUM.

Thanks for the Asience conditioner rec!

Yay for finishing a makeup product! I manage to get through body and hair products reasonably quickly, but almost never manage to finish any makeup!

Just out of curiosity. Have you ever finished any blusher or eyeshadows? I notice that you buy a lot of these.

by the way, I am very interested to see how you store your makeup items. I don't think i have as many as yours but mine is really messy.

hi,
I use Muji drawers which you can see in this post: http://rougedeluxe.blogspot.com/2009/05/makeup-storage.html
Muji's drawers are fantastic for organising one's makeup collection.

I also use a variety of makeup cases and pouches that I store in the drawers in my bedroom. My collection is quite messy too most of the time.

I have finished eyeshadows before but not blushes. My collection is just too massive and I try to rotate through my stuff so that most items get used. If they go bad before I finish using them, I discard them unless they are a collectible item that I really liked.
