Rachel K Cosmetics Launch in Watsons

A relatively new entrant to the local beauty marketplace is Rachel K Cosmetics, which has just debuted in thirty Watsons stores in Singapore. The brand is the brainchild of Rachel Kum, (Miss Singapore Universe 2009) who spent two years researching and developing the line of mineral makeup. Their Facebook page is at http://www.facebook.com/Rachelkcosmetics. I received some of the new products at a bloggers' event earlier this week.

First up is the Mineral Color Control Blemish Balm (S$35, 50g) which seeks to improve on the average BB cream by providing the skincare benefits of BB creams through superior nourishing ingredients (e.g. white tea, aloe leaf, macadamia ternifolia seed oil, hyaluronic acid, Vitamins C and E) with more effective skin coverage.

What makes the Mineral CC Cream especially suitable for Singapore's humid tropical climate is its light, non-oily finish. The cream, which is made in Korea, has a very light pink undertone that serves to make one's skin look more radiant. Below is the ingredients list.

The Mineral Color Control Blemish Balm Pressed Powder (S$38) is supposed to be a foundation, concealer, powder and sunblock in one. The full-coverage foundation is designed to glide on smoothly and allow one's natural skintone to show through while providing coverage. It is free of preservatives, fragrance and talc to make it suitable for even sensitive skintypes.

This is available in three shades: Fair, Medium and Deep. The Medium shade looked a bit too dark in the compact for me, but when applied, it blends in quite naturally with my skintone. The finely-milled powder has the silky, almost slippery texture that is typical of products containing silicones.

The gift with purchase of S$70 is one of the mint-flavoured Mineral Sultry Seduction Lip Plumper. This comes in three shades: (left to right) Vixen, Lolita and Suggestive. The lip plumper causes a tingling sensation in the lips and has peptides to increase hydration.

Here's the look that I did yesterday with the Mineral CC Cream, topped with my Jill Stuart loose powder. I liked how the Mineral CC Cream brightened up my skintone and also how lightweight and non-oily it felt. Also, it had absolutely no grey or ashy tones. It provided medium coverage that was good enough for evening out the skintone but did not completely cover up my blemishes and skin pigmentation. It lasted quite well throughout the day with blotting required about every other hour.

Below are some photos from the bloggers event which was held at a restaurant on the 57th floor of Marina Bay Sands. Even at night, the infinity pool was packed with swimmers enjoying what is probably the best view of the city.

good to see a singapore beauty line; i always believe singaporeans should support local products... but i'll really like to know more about the manufacture of these cosmetics, who she worked with for this line, the R&D process etc. -h.

hi h,
According to their press release, Rachel K cosmetics are formulated by an "expert team of cosmetic chemists and state of the art cosmetic production facilities from USA, Korea and Japan". The manufacturers for a brand are usually a closely guarded secret, so I doubt the brand will reveal more specific info.

fair enough that formulations are a trade secret, but manufacturers & chemists...oh well. i just think that a more technical front would make a completely unknown name much more credible. personally, i'm not very enticed to buy these products just based on some marketing. -h.

I do believe that some test have been done. The BB cream results have been already proven, so I can imagine that a more advance product such a Rachel K CC Cream must be good !
I am so glad to find these product and happy to support a local brand. We also here in Singapore can make great things happens.

Hi Haru,
Thanks for the review. Personally i did a quick swatch of the "light" BB pressed powder (the one which you are given as "medium" in your photo) on my hand and found the texture to be really light and skin flattering. can i know if we can apply Rachel K cc cream + this pressed powder together? just wonder why your photo isn't used with cc cream + pressed powder instead of cc cream + Jill stuart loose powder? sorry to ask this as i like to know more about the application as "cc cream" still sounds pretty new , and actually is it a color corrector or a primer only? thanks so much and in advance :)

if we use cc cream then our liquid foundation, will it be too heavy too? :)

hi
You can use the Rachel K pressed powder in top of the CC Cream or you can just use the CC Cream in its own. It depends how much coverage you want. The powder helps to set the CC Cream and add a bit more coverage. I didn't use them together as I wanted to see how the CC Cream performed on its own. I wouldn't apply another liquid foundation over the CC Cream as that would be too much.

Thanks Madam, got it! :)

Thanks for this review on a new costmetics line. I like that it doesn't look grey or ashy. That's one problem I'm finding with the Missha BB creams that I like.

May i ask if you use Sunblock prior to application of CC Cream?

TIA!

Haru said...

Nope, I don't as the CC Cream is supposed to have SPF25 PA++ to help protect againt the sun.

Actually I did see preservatives in the CC cream ingredient list - Methylparaben. Impt to highlight that as I've seen ppl who are sensitive to parabens. Fortunately I'm fine so I'm still going to give this CC cream a try. Thx for the review and recommendations.

hi,
It's stated in the post that it is the Mineral Color Control Blemish Balm Pressed Powder that is free of preservatives, not the Mineral Color Control Cream. If you look at the list of ingredients for the pressed powder, it does not contain any parabens.
