Lancome Ombre Magnétique Ultra Lavande

When Lancome first introduced Ombre Magnétique, a high shine loose pigment eyeshadow, in fall 2010, I kept waiting for these to arrive in Singapore but sadly, we never got them here as Lancome often releases different colour makeup collections for Asian countries from what is available in US and Europe. The Asian versions usually feature a blander colour scheme, which is disappointing for those of us who love vibrant tones. Anyway, I was fortunate to be able to finally pick up my first Ombre Magnétique from the Ultra Lavande collection recently.

The Ultra Lavande Ombre Magnétique is a rich royal purple. The melting texture is supposed to be extraordinarily long-lasting and crease-resistant.

I wore this today over Urban Decay Primer Potion from 7am to 11pm and was completely amazed that there was absolutely zero creasing and fading. Sometimes with Primer Potion, my eyeshadow creases at the inner corners at the end of the day but when used with Ombre Magnétique, it looked as flawless at 11pm as it did when freshly applied. There was no fallout on my cheeks during the application process or throughout the day.

I used MAC's #228 mini shader brush to apply the Ultra Lavande Ombre Magnétique from the upper lashline to the crease. I used some lighter lavender and pink shades from Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips in Green Eye Candy to complete the look.

The colour payoff is good and builds up quickly to a an intense finish. It's not super sparkly or glittery like Lunasol's new Shining Ocean Eyes or Beaute de Kose Eye Fantasists, but more of a metallic sheen. Although the eyeshadow is long-lasting, it comes off in one single swipe of a cotton pad soaked with Biore Makeup Remover for Eye and Lip (a biphase remover).

At US$25 for 3.5g, it's not cheap but you do get a generous amount of product and I doubt I will ever finish the pot. To compare with MAC, MAC pigments are US$19.50 for 4.5g.

The Ultra Lavande Ombre Magnétique is still available on Nordstrom.com and Lancome USA. Below is the ingredients list.

I've been meaning to get this but couldn't decided which store to get from. Then got side-swayed by Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Intense.

Which store did you get from?

Thanks, Maya! I just re-discovered how lovely Hibiscus is :-)

Hi AtelierBeauty,
I purchased it at either Macys or Nordstrom when I was in the US last month.

Hi, I love it! Is this a cream or a loose powder? You described it as a loose powder, but the ingredients make it look like a cream/mousse texture.

do you wear such colors to work? can you do a normal workday fotd one day? i think sometimes are women are torn between a boring neutral face and something more colorful but which may risk eyebrows in the office. -h.

hi h,
this was a look that I wore to work. For me, I'm comfortable wearing colourful looks to work and I am not a fan of beige and brown eyeshadows.

hi,
I am wearing Burberry Hibiscus lipstick.

OMG! I thought I am the only one in Singapore whom the famous eye primers don't work on.

I have the TFSI and crease on me badly. I have the NARS es base but that creases on me becoz of the eyecream I have on before I put on makeup.

I was thinking of trying the UDPP. But I guess it wld yield the same results, huh?

hi,
the eyeshadow is a dry loose pigment powder, not cream.

hi,
Why don't you try applying eye cream on your upper eyelid only at night and when you are not wearing makeup? The eye cream is emollient and affects the lasting power of the eye primers that you put on top. That is probably why TFSI and the NARS eye primer creased on you. You can still apply eye cream on the under eye area and at the outer corners of the eyes when you are wearing eye makeup.

i am way more interested in your red lips than the lancome loose e/s. Not that a loose e/s person these days but i will look out for them. hopefully it doesn't create lemmings as i don't go near my loose e/s much now.

oh that red!

hi jojoba,
haha, that seems to be the common theme of the comments on this post! I actually blogged about the lipstick previously but the overall makeup look in that post was not as nice as in this post:
