Heroine Make Smooth Cover Powder Clear

Some time ago, Mandom Singapore sent me the Heroine Make Smooth Cover Powder Clear (S$23.90 for 8g) to try. This is the translucent version which comes in a white compact. Heroine Make also has a Smooth Cover Powder foundation that comes in a black compact and is available in two beige shades.

The Smooth Cover Powder Clear is meant to be used as a finishing powder or for touch ups on the go. The fat cotton sponge feels quite soft but it didn't seem to be able to apply the powder smoothly so I prefer to apply the powder with a face brush.

The talc-based powder is formulated with rosehip oil, chamomile extract and silk powder to moisturise and nourish the skin. It feels quite finely milled and silky. When applied, it makes my skin appear slightly fairer and more polished. In terms of oil control, it was average and I still needed to blot every couple of hours.

In the pics below, I'm wearing the Smooth Cover Powder Clear over Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse in Beige. The combination gives me sufficient coverage such that I don't need to apply a liquid foundation.

Side note: I'm using Sleek Paraguaya i-Divine Palette for this look because a reader left a comment on my earlier review of Paraguaya asking me to do only swatches as she finds my makeup "really scary" and not helpful at all. So I thought I'd give her another scare ;-p

The other products used for this look are: Urban Decay Primer Potion, K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 02, Esprique Precious True Black Mascara WP (Volume Separate), Majolica Majorca Perfect Automatic Liner VI606, Cosme Decorte Rouge Supreme BE355, Addiction Cry Baby Lipgloss, Lancome Natural Light Creator Bare Skin Perfecting Corrector Pen #1 and Canmake Cheek & Cheek #4 Love Blossom.

Aside from the Heroine Make Smooth Cover Powder Clear, I've been rotating amongst another three face powders: Majolica Majorca Pressed Pore Cover, Ettusais Quick Fix Powder and Maybelline Clear Smooth Shine Free Face Powder #2 Nude Beige.

Of the four, the Majolica powder is the fairest while I find the Ettusais Quick Fix Powder to be the closest fit to my skintone. Both the Majolica and Heroine Make powders give a slightly whitish dreamy cast. Personally, I like the Ettusais Quick Fix Powder the best as it has the most natural finish and makes my skin look better.

The bright pink shade in Canmake Cheek & Cheek #4 Love Blossom is ultra pigmented! The included brush is a tad small but nevertheless, the synthetic bristles feel very soft.

The satin texture with tiny micro-sparkles reminded me of the Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compacts so below is a comparison shot. There are some similar shades but no real exact dupes.

I think you look great in your makeup photos- it inspires me to make more effort with my day to day makeup.
Love that powder and don't listen to silly people on the internet!

of the 4 powders you're using, which has the best oil control? thanks!

Oh, I like this look. It has a girlish touch but without being over-the-top or pretentious. Nice! The Canmake blusher #4 is lovely on you.

I'm surprised Shu's UV mousse in beige with just powder over it provides sufficient coverage. Between the Heroine Make Smooth Cover Powder and P&J finishing powder 001 from the Sahara collection, which has more coverage? If it's the latter, then I may get Shu's UV mousse as I'd like a quick-fix base mu nowadays.

Btw, are those all the JS compact blushers that you own? Do you own #10 Sweet Biscuit? Have you ever done a LOTD with Candy Orange and/or Sweet Biscuit?

hi ad,
Both the Ettusais Quick Fix Powder and the Maybelline Clear Smooth face powder provide pretty good oil control.

hi sam,
thank you, that means a lot! :-)

Hi Iris,

I have been silently following your blog for years and I love it that u always give open & honest feedback. The way u mix colours in your EOTD are inspiring~ thanks for all your efforts and well-written entries! & yes, like the other reader say, please don't mind the senseless comments of some. I love your EOTD, so keep them coming! ^^

hi Lyn,
thanks, am touched to hear that :-)

hi Hannah,
The P&J finishing powder provides very little coverage for me. The Heroine Make Smooth Cover Powder gives a bit more coverage but it's not enough on its own for me. I don't own Sweet Biscuit. Don't think I've posted a look with Candy Orange.

Some people are just so rude! Your photos are lovely, not scary! I always enjoy looking at the different looks you come up with.

Ignore the silly twit who thought your makup looked scary. Her favorite fashion color is probably beige. You are very pretty and I really like how your complexion looks in these photos so I think this powder is a winner. And while I don't usually wear some of the bright colors on my eyes that you do, your pictures always give me inspiration to try new looks.

I think you did a great job with the eye makeup.
pink if never apply properly will look like eye allergy.

lol! i love it that you do the fotd instead of swatches just to taunt the commenter. haha!

oh here's a thought! the canmake blusher can also make into blusher ala-Jill Stuart, depot and arrage it next to each other and voila! you get a quarter blusher. LOL!

Some people are so rude! I guess that they weren't taught manners by their parents. I was taught (and have taught my children) that if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.

Your FOTD's are so pretty all of the time. It also gives your readers a chance to see different styles and techniques on how to use a certain palette.

You're doing an awesome job!

I like your sense of humour regarding your 'scary makeup'! hahaa

I am glad that you do not photoshop your makeup looks as it allows me to see how each product actually works on 'real' people.

Keep it up!

What a rude comment! I think your makeup always looks lovely - polished, but still fun! In fact most of them are so work-appropriate IMO, so I really can't see how someone would think you look scary at all. Glad you've got a great sense of humour about it ;)

I love the pics of the new Canmake blush and the swatches you posted earlier! Am really tempted to try them out because Canmake blushes get great raves, but I'm really trying to pare down my stash :( Gah... it's hard trying to be reasonable :P

i cant believe somebody was that rude!
i read ur blog regularly but i dont ever comment (just bc i normally never ever comment)
but i appreciate that you do looks with the palettes im interested in because i feel that swatches dont really giv eme an idea of how its going to look on the eye, whereas the lotds you do give me some idea of how it might look on me.
thanks for all ur devotion to this blog, it's been a valuable source of info for me!

I follow your blog religiously and I must say that this combination of products make your skin look amazing. You look so natural, fresh and polished!! not to mention that this makeup look suits you.
I will definitely add the powder to the long list of products I want my husband to bring me from Japan. Thank you very much for your hard work, and never mind the rude comments!!

Haru, do you have any plans to try the foundation versions of the Heroine Make powder? I have the translucent one you reviewed and I like it, but I'm wondering how the foundation versions are (I have to buy online from Sasa and can't see the products first in person). Thanks!

Also that is a funny comment about your reader, though it is mean for her to say your makeup is scary :(
