MAC Marine Life

MAC released the To The Beach collection in Singapore on Friday. As expected, the Marine Life High-light Powder (S$48) was in extremely short supply and sold out promptly at all the counters as each counter only got about 10-15 pieces. When I popped by the store in Ngee Ann City at around noon, the SA said that there were people waiting for it even before the store opened.

I was quite cheesed off with MAC for producing Marine Life in such limited quantities, that I was actually quite ok with not getting it. If MAC doesn't want my money, there are plenty of other makeup companies that are more than happy to take it! If an item is so highly sought after, how difficult can it be to produce it in larger quantities, or to even make it permanent? If MAC can bring back MSFs like Stereo Rose, there's no reason why they can't do the same with Marine Life. Why create something that only leaves you with a big bunch of disappointed and frustrated customers all over the world?

Anyway, my buddy Mag managed to snag Marine Life for me at the Tangs Orchard counter later in the afternoon. So now, it is sitting in its fugly algae-green case on my table, taunting me with its golden overspray: touch me and I cease to be special! Guess I'll just use my MSFs for now (I have a huge stash of these, again thanks to the stupid limited edition get-it-now-or-regret-it-later philosophy).

Haha, agree with you on the limited qty of products which they will know will sell out in no time. Perhaps it is to maintain the exclusivity of the product? In any case, I am just glad that I was not into this Marine Life, otherwise imagine the frenzy it would put me through to get my hands on it.

That kind of rationale is exactly why I didn't get it (that and it didn't seem that special without the gold overspray) - I don't want something I'd be afraid to use! I have other peach-y/coral-y blushes that I will probably never get through.

I tend not to buy MAC collections - there are so many and I hate buying into the 'hype'. I will check out Stereo Rose though, even though I've thought all the other MSFs were glitterbombs... hopefully this will be better!

hey Justine,
Same, I've cut way back on my MAC purchases over the past few years as the collections become impossible to keep up with. After awhile, it takes something extraordinary or unusual to really pique my interest. It's good if you get bored easily like me and want to have something new to play with all the time but I wish MAC would put more effort into making really stellar collections.

hey sophia,
MAC is hardly in the category of Guerlain or Chanel, so I don't understand why they would want to make something so hard to get hold of.

LOL! So true. I've regretted alot of MAC purchases just because it was limited edition. Who knows if this is a regretable purchase until a few months down the road... when it's sitting lonely without a second look.

I'm quite "bored" with MAC Limited editions now... Too many collections so it wouldn't be clever to buy that much and because the quantities are small, you just have to take it or leave it, no time to think about it.

Marine Life is now sold out here. I tested it a few times but somehow I didn't find that so interesting. It is pretty, I must admit :D

totally agree with you on this stupid marketing concept that although makes ppl run like mad to get one, will leave a bunch behind disappointed.

Aw. Well you know honestly, MAC produced more of Marine Life than probably any other LE item they've produced all year. My counter usually only gets 6-10 of other LE items and they got 20 of Marine Life. What I don't understand is the ridiculous and widespread hype over it.

And FWIW, I actually think Marine Life is still quite pretty without the overspray.

used to like mac because it looked fun. moved on to japanese products now. i feel that their products are way over priced. for a little more, i could get a maquillage face creator!

Hey, I was just wondering...I am in the US, and I was just wondering if you know of any good online/ebay/etsy sellers for japanese/kawaii stationery...especially deco tapes? Sorry, this is a random, non-makeup question...

MAC really have too many series coming out. I've never purchase anything from MAC and now that i've recently graduated from school... i'm tempting to start my own makeup collection. I fell in love with MAC ever since the hello kitty collection that was sold out last year. I walked into the MAC stores a few times but exited empty handed :( simply too many products and the LE series comes out so fast that i've no time to browse, purchase, finish up the product.

hi Agmini,
You should ask Kathi on Lotuspalace as she knows some sellers on Etsy who sell Japanese stationery.

if it frustrates u so much, why even get it.
why not give it up to some1 who really wants it and will use it.

gee, dog in the manger.

I got Marine Life because I do like it and will probably use it. The part that frustrates me is the shortage of stocks to satisfy the high demand for Marine Life, as I explained quite clearly in my post.

I was at Vivo ard 1050am, n it was already sold out. Grabbed a cab to nearest Ion, and was able to snag 1. In all madness, this is prob the 1st time i'm chasing after a pdt so fervently. It's indeed a pretty seahorse

I was able to get a Marine Life for myself and a friend. Honestly think Nars Deep Throat looks similar enough to Marine Life. I'm sure that some would say they are "totally different" but close enough for all the trouble. Thanks for the post-the pictures are so beautiful and I do hope you enjoy yours! :)

Not gonna lie, marine life is completely gorgeous on the skin. I don't get those who want to collect it, make-up is for using and this is just a gorgeous product! I got my face done with it and loved it but had to settle for the other blush, and while quite pretty in its own right, doesn't give my skin the same glow that marine life did. I want it!

I had been wanting to get my hands on that highlighter since I saw the previews.. but by the time I managed to get to my local store, they were already long sold out. Really disappointing.. although I admit, it's gorgeous in the packaging but after trying the sample, I'm not really sure it's as incredible as it's hyped up to be.
