Canmake Gokunobi Mascara

Hot on the heels of its top-selling Gokubuto volumising mascara, Canmake has introduced a lengthening version called Gokunobi in Glossy Black. It is a fibre-based film-type mascara that is supposed to help lengthen and separate the lashes, as well as keep them curled. It is smudgeproof and can be removed with warm water.

As mentioned earlier, Watsons currently has Gokunobi on sale at S$18.90, instead of the usual S$23.90. The promotion is on until 20 October.

The brush is "D-shaped". The curved side is supposed to help lift and separate the lashes, providing a better fit to the shape of the eye.

Gokunobi also contains three emollient ingredients to help keep the lashes moisturised: royal jelly extract, rosa centifolia flower extract and macadamia nut oil.

It is recommended that you first use the short straight side to apply the mascara from the lash roots to the tips in a zig-zag motion, brushing two to three times through the lashes. After the mascara has dried partially, use the long curved side to build length at the lash tips. Next, use the straight side to apply the mascara on the lashes on the lower eyelid. You can do so either holding the mascara vertically or horizontally.

Canmake also suggests two techniques to try. For a more almond-shaped look, you can add more volume to the lashes in the middle. Or try adding more layers at the outer upper and lower lashes.

I found that Gokunobi does a pretty good job of adding length, definition and some volume. The shade is jet black without any grey or ashy tones. Although it contains fibres, I did not experience any fibres flaking off and falling into my eyes or on my cheeks over more than 10 hours of wear.

It does take quite a bit of layering to build up the length but the good thing about Gokunobi is that it doesn't start to clump even after repeated layering. The mascara dries quite quickly and is not overly wet like some other brands. At the end of the day, my lashes were still curled, but this may have more to do with the Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base that I used under Gokunobi.

For this look, I used Urban Decay Primer Potion, POP Beauty Smoky Rose Wallet, Cosme Decorte AQ Makeup Base 01 (Moist), Face Powder N 001 and Rouge Supreme BE355 topped with Paul & Joe Lipgloss N #4, NARS Orgasm Blush, Benefit Erase Paste #1 Fair, Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Liner and K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24h 01.

Here's the ingredients list for Gokunobi. The tube that I purchased from Watsons has an expiry date of June 2013.

Do you wear a sunscreen daily or does your primer contain one?

hi,
The foundations that I use usually contain sunscreen. For example, Dior X4 Control Compact Foundation has SPF20 PA++, Lancome Teint Miracle has SPF15 PA++ and Cosme Decorte AQ Cream Foundation Supreme has SPF20 and PA++. The Cosme Decorte AQ Makeup Base also has SPF18 and PA+.

Hi clara,

I'm afraid I haven't tried the Fairy Drops mascara before.

Hi
The product description says that the mascara is waterproof but it can be removed wuth warm water. That means it should be resistant to tears.

Nice FOTD!

I found that the gokunobi mascara really didn't curl my eyelashes as I had hoped but it did lengthen my eyelashes nicely. The gokubuto does a way better job of curling my eyelashes (if I don't do any curling or mascara base) and volumizing. I usually like to use the gokubuto on my lashes first to get them volumized and curled as I like and then use the gokunobi for lenth. I also prefer using the gokunobi for my lower lashes since it's easier to apply with the brush. Both haven't flaked on me either and I love the fact that they wash off with warm water. I'll agree that both mascaras need quite a bit of layering to build it up.

Great review! I always enjoy reading your blog!

Hi Haru. I see you're using Cosme Decorte Rouge Supreme BE355 for your FOTD :-) I really like this lipstick colour too. It's a very flattering shade.

Must check if got in Malaysia.

Hi Kat,
Thank you! I've been enjoying reading your product reviews too :) I'll probabyl try out the Gokubuto mascara after I'm done with Gokunobi. I like Gokunobi as it can help lengthen my super sparse and short lower lashes (most other mascars just clump straightaway on my lower lashes).

Hi milktea,
Hope you manage to find it! If not, try Paul & Joe for a similar dupe.
