Tokidoki x Jujube Bags in TokiPerky and Unikiki

Being a longtime fan of Tokidoki bags, I couldn't resist picking up a couple of bags from their recent collaborations with Jujube, a diaper bag company. The timing was perfect too, with my baby boy arriving last month.

My first purchase was the Better Be shoulder bag in the TokiPerky print released for Spring 2013.

Next was the larger Be Prepared diaper bag in the Unikiki print released for Holiday 2013. This unicorn-themed print was immensely popular with most of the lower-priced bags selling out in a flash on the day of release. Unfortunately, it looks like there won't be a restock, so the only recourse is Ebay for many of the designs. It's disappointing that Tokidoki and Jujube can't seem to get the task of anticipating demand right, even after several collections. Diehard Tokidoki fans are reduced to stalking their website for these popular collections but not everyone has the time to do that.

The Be Prepared is quite a bit taller and roomier than the Better Be. For a quick trip outside for a few hours, for example to the mall, the Better Be is the perfect size and fits everything that I need. It also affords faster access to the interior via the flap with a magnetic closure whereas the Be Prepared's main compartment needs to be unzipped. The side pockets of Better Be are also easier to access compared to those of Be Prepared which have a covering flap.

Better Be's shoulder strap is also slightly wider compared to that of Be Prepared. I found Be Prepared to be surprisingly heavy when empty, so this will probably be reserved for travelling.

Both bags come with a padded changing mat, with the Better Be having a slightly larger one.

The cheerful whimsical prints never fail to brighten up my day. The prints featured in the Jujube collections are amongst the most charming ever done by Tokidoki, with none of the leggy Japanese girls common in the older Tokidoki releases.

Inside, there are several netted and zip pockets which make organising the multitude of items a baby needs a breeze. The bright interiors make it easy to see the contents.

My Samsung S2 phone slides easily into the side pocket.

Be Prepared has metal studs on the bottom but not the Better Be.

Overall, I think these are the best bags that Tokidoki has produced since its classic LeSportSac creations, in terms of the attractiveness of the prints and the quality of the bags. Hopefully, Tokidoki will continue this collaboration with Jujube for several more seasons to come. Tokidoki has also just released another Sanrio collection, which can be viewed here.

Oasis & Warehouse Accessories from ASOS

Just received my accessories haul from ASOS.com (gotta love their free international shipping)!

This Warehouse diamante chain bracelet was £9.50, down from £14. I've already worn it and love its light feel and interplay of textures.

I liked the elegant etching of this Oasis lace collar necklace (£12). It is no longer available on ASOS but it is in stock on the Oasis website.

This Oasis rhinestone anklet (£10) is even more sparkly and shiny than it looks online. This wore very comfortably on my ankle.

Liberty prints and Samantha Thavasa Cafe

On our Japan trip, I was happy to discover that Liberty prints continue to be popular in Japan, with several brands featuring the iconic prints.

At Afternoon Tea, a chain of lifestyle stores, I picked up this pair of accessories.

Opening Ceremony in Lumine at Shinjuku station had a lovely display of products by Floret London. See a more comprehensive range here.

I picked up a pair of accessory trays for my dresser.

A Union Jack print handkerchief.

An assortment of handkerchiefs by Intermode, which is stocked in most major department stores.

Outfits from Earth, music & ecology, including a Hello Kitty print camisole top.

Samantha Thavasa stocks an extensive range of Liberty print bags, wallets, pouches and card holders, mostly as part of their Petite Choice range.

Aside from the Liberty collection, another hot seller was the Bambi collection.

While in Tokyo, I had a wonderful time catching up with Yumeko of A Dream of Tokyo. She brought me to the Samantha Thavasa Celebrity Cafe in Solamachi, one of the new malls in Tokyo.

Typical of the brand, the dominant color is pink with the seats covered in the brand's signature print.

The gallery of celebrity spokesmodels include Penelope Cruz and her sister, Ebi-chan, Jessica Michibata and Miranda Kerr.

The cafe serves only desserts (eclairs and frozen yogurt) and drinks. I had a mango eclair while Yumeko had a royal milk tea eclair with a Union Jack motif. Do also check out Yumeko's post on the cafe!

Thanks to Yumeko's blog, I came to learn about Lupicia teas. At the Lucua mall in Umeda, Osaka, I picked up the Kir Royal tea, which is exclusive to Lucua, plus a Yamabudo Oolong tea which has a lovely grape scent. Lupicia also has an outlet in Solamachi.

Thanks for reading!

Friday Photo Meme - What's In Your Bag Edition

Yet another week has flown by, and it's time for another edition of Friday Photo Meme, as started by the wonderful Yumeko. This week's theme is what’s in your bag :-)

1. Cellphone/mobile phone

My Samsung Galaxy SII is in the repair shop right now so this is actually my old phone, the Galaxy Ace, which I was using last year. The Tokidoki Gelaskin was designed for an iPhone, hence the messy edges that I cut in it to make it fit the Ace. Only after I cut the hole for the Singtel logo did I realise that the Singtel thingy was a sticker that could be peeled off... *facepalm*.

2. Wallet/Purse/Whatever you keep your money in

I've been using this Samantha Thavasa Liberty print wallet for over two years now, and it's still in excellent condition. It's the perfect design for me as it has several card slots and does not feel too bulky. Next to it is a Liberty print tissue case that was a freebie with a Japanese magazine from several months ago.

3. Something in your wallet [cards/coins/money/whatever]

Membership cards for Sephora (France), Etam (a French clothing store) and Liberty in London.

4. Makeup you carry on the go

I carry mainly lip products for touch-ups on the go in a LeSportsac pouch, together with an Anna Sui compact mirror and my staple Gatsby oil blotters. This week, I've been using Paul & Joe Lipstick M 002 (from last fall's Manhattan collection), RMK Mix Colors For Lips 05 Holographic Light Pink, Clarins Crystal Balm 03 Crystal Coral and Ettusais Lip Essence.

5. Whatever else you wish to share from your bag

A Blythe diary for jotting down random lists. A very kind friend also just sent me the limited edition Majolica Majorca pens that were released recently in conjunction with the Psychedelicious collection. I think these are only available in Japan.

The two fatter pen holders can be filled with five ink refills.

If you have a blog, do join in by leaving a comment on Yumeko's post and here with a link to your blog post, and I'll be sure to check it out!
