Here's another pic from Spur of Three Lip Jam (11 shades, 3000yen) coming on 7 January in Japan. Chanel will launch a new line of glosses named Rouge Allure Gloss Click (3900yen) on 24 October in Japan. Available in 9 shades, the English name is simply Rouge Allure Gloss but the Japanese name adds a "Click" at the end. A simple push to the top of the tube causes the lipgloss applicator to pop up. Fans of Canmake's Candy Wrap Lip glosses may be pleased to know that there is a new limited edition shade 09 Dark Night Plum that has just been released in Japan. Reviews on Cosme.net describe it as a translucent dark cherry tint. See swatches of it on Beautist and Cosme.net. According to Chiaki Niimi, another three new French Lolita-themed shades will be released on 2 April in Japan. Before that, Canmake will launch a new Stay On Balm Rouge in three shades on 4 March. See the pic here.
Canmake has also just released a new limited edition shade CL04 Clear Pink Joy of their popular Cream Cheek series. For reviews of the first three shades in Clear series, do check out A Little Dab Into Makeup and So Lonely in Gorgeous. All four shades are available from Alpha Beauty on Ebay (not affiliated).
Spotted the new Bourjois Aristoclash collection for winter 2013 today at a department store.
The display includes a mix of new and existing shades. From left to right in the pic below: Blush in #34 Rose D'Or, Little Round Pot Intense Eyeshadow #3 and #11 (new). Eyeshadow #11 is a lovely pale lavender with silver sparkles.
So Laque Ultra Shine 63 Purple Fiction and 49 Fashion gris-gris.
Bourjois steps into the BB cream frenzy with a cream compact version that promises 8-in-1 benefits. It is available in four shades. This felt slightly greasy to touch, and seems to give light coverage.
The collection also includes two BB Gloss with 5-in-1 benefits, namely fresh glow, protective, moisturising, smoothing and crystal shine. I love Bourjois but that's just stretching the BB bandwagon to preposterous limits!
Here's a behind-the-scenes clip for Aristoclash, which will be available in the UK in January.
Burberry is a brand that I haven't explored much of as the shade range tends to be too muted and classic for my taste. Recently, I ordered the Lip Glow #17 Bright Plum (US$27) from Nordstrom. This was released for Holiday 2011 and is part of the permanent range. Made in Italy, it retails for S$39 in Singapore at Tangs.
I love the sleek lucite packaging with the tapered inner compartment. The subtly textured surface of the box packaging is another lovely elegant touch. The slanted doe foot sponge applicator works well enough and doesn't require much re-dipping into the tube.
Bright Plum is a glossy, well-pigmented dramatic plum red without any visible shimmer, well-suited for the holiday season. It may be a tad intense for the day but I've always had a soft spot for deep berry hues and have no issues with sporting them during the day. With Bright Plum, I usually wear lighter shades on the eyes and cheeks so that the face isn't overwhelmed by too much color everywhere.
The gloss is not as slick as YSL Glossy Stain. It lasts well over more than four hours but there is some bleeding into the fine lines and stickiness after a couple of hours. Given the high price tag, I doubt I'll pick up other shades unless they are truly spectacular. Personally, I still prefer YSL Glossy Stains.
Below is the list of ingredients.
For this look, I used Laneige Water Supreme Foundation SPF15 PA+, which was kindly gifted to me by Larry Yeo.
The shade No.21 Natural Beige looked awfully yellow and dark in the bottle but fortunately, it turned out to be a pretty good match for my skintone and not as dark as it looks in the bottle. It has a light texture that melds easily into the skin for a natural satin finish. I like how it evens out my skintone in a jiffy without pooling in my pores. The only flaw is that the oil control isn't that great and I find myself having to blot quite a few times during the day even though it is now the dry winter season.
Below is the ingredients list. You can read more about the foundation here.
The other products used for this look: RMK Christmas Palette 2012 and Super Basic Liquid Concealer EX01, Lavshuca Fairy Candy Cheeks 01 Pink, Becca Ultimate Mascara, K-Palette Lasting 2Way Eyebrow 02, Cargo Swimmables Eye Pencil in Charcoal.
I was lucky to find the Lavshuca Fairy Candy Cheeks on my trip to Japan in the fall. These limited edition blush balls were released as part of the spring 2012 collection. Composed of three colors, they are nicely pigmented with a soft glowy finish.
Recently, I ordered the Laura Mercier Mini Lip Glacé Collection in Rich Berries (US$48) from Nordstrom. There is another set in Soft Nudes but that looked too pale and sheer for my liking. I prefer lipglosses that give a healthy pop of color.
Rich Berries is somewhat of a misnomer as the shades are predominantly pink-toned rather than true berry hues. Each mini lip glace is 2.8g/0.1oz, which is pretty decent. I like the chic, compact packaging which is the perfect size for popping into even the tiniest purses.
The slanted doe foot sponge applicator pulls out of the tube with just the right amount of gloss at the tip for one lip, so usually I need to re-dip once or twice for one application.
From left to right: Violet, Rose, Sangria, Cerise and Brownberry.
Only Cerise is a cream shade without any shimmer particles. Violet is the most shimmery of the lot. I'm not a fan of the oddly artificial scent but once applied, it does not bother me.
I love the glossy, non-sticky texture of these lip glaces as they do not pool in fine lines or feather. While not as highly shiny as YSL Glossy Stains, they usually last a good three hours on my lips, eventually fading to a soft stain. They do transfer easily onto cups and require touch-ups after a meal. Cerise is shown in the pic below.
The pic below shows Sangria, my favourite shade in the set.
Made in the USA, I think the Rich Berries Lip Glacé set makes a perfect gift for a friend or for yourself for this holiday season. All the shades are easily wearable with a feminine grace and there is enough variety in the set to keep things interesting.
Becca recently released three new Beach Tints. Being a fan of these cream tints for the lips and cheeks, I couldn't resist getting all three, Lychee, Dragonfruit and Papaya. I also picked up the new Ultimate Colour Gloss in Hummingbird.
I ordered these from Zuneta.com where they are normally £20 each, but if you are located outside the EU, they cost £16.67 each. Zuneta currently has free international shipping for orders over £40 with the code FREESHIPXMAS until 18 November.
The fine tapered tube opening makes it easy to control the amount dispensed. Each Beach Tint contains 7g/0.24 fl oz and is made in Germany. The tube looks tiny but it can last several months even with daily usage. The petite size also makes it very convenient for travel, plus there is no need to fiddle with brushes.
Here are swatches of my current collection of Beach Tints. Papaya is more pure orange-toned than Strawberry. Dragonfruit is more rosy pink than Watermelon, which is much more sheer. Lychee is a blue-toned baby pink. I did not encounter any separation or wateriness with the three new shades.
The three new shades have very good colour payoff while retaining their easy blendability. Only a very small pinhead amount is needed for one application. These have a light scent that match the shade name, which is not detectable when applied on the cheeks. Do also check out Drivel about Frivol and here for more swatches.
In the pic below, I am wearing Dragonfruit. It lasted about 4 hours on my cheeks and had completely disappeared by the evening. I think this was partly due to the Topshop Skin Tint that I was using, which made my skin a tad more oily than usual. The lasting power might not be that great but nevertheless, I'm still happy with the new Tints as they are so easy to use and help to liven up the complexion effortlessly. The only thing I wish Becca would do is print the shade names on the tube. The box comes with the shade name on a sticker, but once you peel it off, it does not adhere properly to anything else so I ended up having to slap some clear scotch tape on top of it to get it to stick to the tube. Not the most glamorous definitely!
Hummingbird lipgloss is a nice shade for every day wear. The gloss feels moisturising enough without being sticky or streaky. There is no shimmer or glitter, so the formula feels very smooth. It lasts about 3-4 hours on me. I do wish I had picked the darker Berry Twist instead though.
YSL has just released six new shades of their popular Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stains. I found these at Sephora in France earlier today. The swatches are a bit messy as they had been on my hand for three hours, and got accidentally swiped by my mother's jacket sleeve. There's a bit of bleeding into the fine lines, but they still retained their trademark glossiness.
I like #24, #25 and #26, but I already have four Glossy Stains that need to be used more frequently so I didn't purchase any of the new ones. You can see swatches of #1-#19 in this earlier post. L'Oreal Paris (which owns YSL Beauté) has just released a more affordable version called Shine Caresse which costs €14+ versus €29 for the YSL Glossy Stain. The applicator has a similar oval shape. According to this MakeupAlley post, the ingredients are almost identical for the two products.
The texture does feel similar to YSL Glossy Stain but most of the Shine Caresse shades are more sheer and require quite a bit of layering to build up the colour. Personally, I'd rather save my pennies for the Glossy Stains since the Shine Caresse aren't exactly cheap. #402 Milady was my favourite out of the 8 shades available for Shine Caresse. I found these at Monoprix in France.
Below are swatches of the YSL Boréal Palette Collector Nuit Arctique which comes in a silver sequin pouch. This is part of the holiday collection.
