Tokidoki x Jujube Bags in TokiPerky and Unikiki

Being a longtime fan of Tokidoki bags, I couldn't resist picking up a couple of bags from their recent collaborations with Jujube, a diaper bag company. The timing was perfect too, with my baby boy arriving last month.

My first purchase was the Better Be shoulder bag in the TokiPerky print released for Spring 2013.

Next was the larger Be Prepared diaper bag in the Unikiki print released for Holiday 2013. This unicorn-themed print was immensely popular with most of the lower-priced bags selling out in a flash on the day of release. Unfortunately, it looks like there won't be a restock, so the only recourse is Ebay for many of the designs. It's disappointing that Tokidoki and Jujube can't seem to get the task of anticipating demand right, even after several collections. Diehard Tokidoki fans are reduced to stalking their website for these popular collections but not everyone has the time to do that.

The Be Prepared is quite a bit taller and roomier than the Better Be. For a quick trip outside for a few hours, for example to the mall, the Better Be is the perfect size and fits everything that I need. It also affords faster access to the interior via the flap with a magnetic closure whereas the Be Prepared's main compartment needs to be unzipped. The side pockets of Better Be are also easier to access compared to those of Be Prepared which have a covering flap.

Better Be's shoulder strap is also slightly wider compared to that of Be Prepared. I found Be Prepared to be surprisingly heavy when empty, so this will probably be reserved for travelling.

Both bags come with a padded changing mat, with the Better Be having a slightly larger one.

The cheerful whimsical prints never fail to brighten up my day. The prints featured in the Jujube collections are amongst the most charming ever done by Tokidoki, with none of the leggy Japanese girls common in the older Tokidoki releases.

Inside, there are several netted and zip pockets which make organising the multitude of items a baby needs a breeze. The bright interiors make it easy to see the contents.

My Samsung S2 phone slides easily into the side pocket.

Be Prepared has metal studs on the bottom but not the Better Be.

Overall, I think these are the best bags that Tokidoki has produced since its classic LeSportSac creations, in terms of the attractiveness of the prints and the quality of the bags. Hopefully, Tokidoki will continue this collaboration with Jujube for several more seasons to come. Tokidoki has also just released another Sanrio collection, which can be viewed here.

Tokidoki Barbie and New Tokidoki Bag

Way before the controversy over the Tokidoki Barbie erupted in the US media, I've been wanting this for my Tokidoki collection.

Thanks to a stroke of luck, I managed to snag it for the original retail price on Ebay shortly after it was released. Just mere days later, the prices on Ebay increased several fold and the Mattel website promptly sold out after the furor over her tattoos.

Certainly, the hot pink micro-mini and leopard print tights aren't exactly the definition of class and elegance but that's not what Tokidoki is about. I wouldn't dress like that personally but that doesn't stop me from loving all the whimsical design details of this Barbie, from her shellacked pink bob, coy sideways glance to her glittery silver stilettos and Bastardino pet on the golden leash.

The Tokidoki Barbie is a Gold Label production meant for the adult collector, which means no more than 7400 units were produced.

With my MAC Barbie, another treasured collectible from 2007.

At the Takashimaya sale in Ngee Ann City level B2 today, I found the white Tokidoki cross-weave bag going for S$119 (about half its original price).

When I first saw the bag at Tangs Orchard several months ago, the soft white material and sakura motif appealed to me immensely but it looked tricky to maintain, plus the girl looked like an alien with her olive green skin and purple hair and lips!

This is actually two bags in one as the inner organiser can be removed and comes with its own detachable strap.

Some of the other designs on sale.

Tokidoki at Tangs Orchard

There is now a Tokidoki corner at Tangs Orchard's Style Space on 4! Formerly the children's department, Tangs has now turned the fourth level into a hip fashion haven with a revolving selection of fashion brands alongside art installations and other events. The Tokidoki bags will be available only for one week as part of Style Space on 4.

I loved the San Diego bags with their inter-weaving design. The interior is a super kawaii white and pink sakura-print design.

The Mondrian Tulip Bag was S$169. The prices compare very well with the US, where the Tulip Bag is US$125 (about S$156), excluding sales tax. (By the way, Tangs will be having its 12% rebate event for cardmembers on 25 May.)

The Mondrian Baguette Crossbody Handbag was around S$109 (versus US$90 in the US).

The prints were not as attractive to me as the Beach Collection for Sephora though. The material is also not the ripstop nylon of the LeSportsac Tokidoki bags.

So shiny!

In Singapore, you can also find Tokidoki at Play Imaginative, which recently moved to *Scape, next to Cineleisure. Play Imaginative carries only some bags from the older collections, stationery and the Unicorno mini series. They also had the Hello Kitty x Tokidoki laptop sleeves.

Tokidoki Beach Tote Bag and Stila Stunning in Sayulita

Just received the Tokidoki Beach Tote Bag and Stila's new Collectible Beach Palette No. 1 Stunning in Sayulita from a friend!

The tote bag turned out to be nicer than what I was expecting. The quality is on par with Tokidoki's own line of bags but it is priced more affordably at US$60. The polyurethane outer shell looks similar to the ripstop nylon of the LeSportsac Tokidoki bags but it is slightly thicker and coated for easier cleaning.

The inner nylon lining features Tokidoki's logo. The bag is roomy with a broad base and can easily fit a towel and other essentials for a day out at the beach. It has a nicely structured shape but can also be folded up easily. The only minor flaw is the lack of inner pockets which would have come in handy.

The logo charm on the zipper pull.

The print is a cheerful tapestry of the Tokidoki characters relaxing on the beach. It's one of those charming Tokidoki prints that's fascinating to look at, thanks to the whimsical details. The beach collection for Sephora is also much more attractive than the bags that Tokidoki currently carries on its own website.

Stila has just embarked on a new series of five Collectible Beach Palettes with one to be released each month. The Beach Palettes are slightly longer and wider than the first batch of Travel Palettes. Each includes four powder eyeshadows, a blush and a bronzer/highlighter.

Inside, the mirror has been reduced in size to facilitate the inclusion of a makeup tutorial showing how to use the shades.

Although there is a price increase from US$10 to US$14, I'd rather pay $4 more for two powder blushes that I'd actually use rather than have half the palette taken up by a greasy Convertible Color with poor lasting power.

The order came with a fragrance booklet that included eleven peel-off fragrance samples. It's a very effective marketing tool as the smorgasbord of samples never fails to spark at least a couple of lemmings for me.
