More x Gelato Pique and Glow x Helena Rubenstein

Stopped by Kinokuniya again this afternoon to get the new January issue of More and Glow.

More comes with a pair of Gelato Pique socks in their trademark "moco-moco" fluffy fabric in mint and lavender.

The magazine is pricey at S$19.30 but it's not that bad when one considers that Gelato Pique's room socks usually retail for 1890yen (about S$30). The material is incredibly fluffy and soft, with a decent thickness. These will come in handy on overseas trips during the cold season. Uniqlo currently also carries some roomwear designs in this type of fabric.

The February issue of More will include a L'Occitane zip pouch and a Shea Rich Butter Cream sample. Due out on 25 December in Japan.

The January issue of Glow (S$19) comes with a gold Helena Rubenstein makeup pouch with a black lace overlay on both sides of the pouch. The lace design is inspired by Helena Rubenstein's Lash Queen Sexy Black WP mascara.

I haven't tried Helena Rubenstein's makeup line before but I liked the metallic gold and black lace design of the pouch. Their mascara is often voted the number one mascara in various Japanese beauty magazines. You can find the makeup line at DFS Galleria in Scotts Road.

The pouch is quite roomy, measuring 11x21x6cm, and has three internal side pockets.

It is quite well-made with reinforced stitching. One does have to be careful with the lace-covered portions so as not to snag it acidently.

The next issue will come with a Roberta di Camerino felt bag and satin drawstring pouch. The handbag is a mini version of a popular "R handbag" design by Roberta di Camerino. The release date is also 25 December in Japan.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Osaka/Kyoto Trip Photos Part 2

The Daimaru store in Shinsaibashi in Osaka is spread over a couple of buildings with several stores-in-store. At a lifestyle accessories shop called Afternoon Tea, I found these Liberty print collection of stationery! But since I already have a Blythe 2011 schedule book, I didn't really need any of these.

I stumbled across this Cath Kidston store entirely by chance. It was not staffed so I could snap photos away merrily. The prices are quite jacked up compared to the UK, so it's not surprising that the Cath Kidston stores in the UK are often full of Japanese tourists.

Later in the day, I was in Kyoto JR station. I could smell the aroma of this Lush store at least 20 metres before I found it!

Magazines Haul

Picked up some magazines at Kinokuniya (Ngee Ann City) today :-) The 50th anniversary issue of Her World comes with a coupon for a free slice of cake at Bakerzin (until 31 July). Bakerzin is also offering a 30% discount on all whole cakes during the month of July. With the Her World coupon, you can also enjoy an additional 5% discount off whole cakes. I'm hoping that Bakerzin will bring back its yummy black sesame mooncakes later this year for the Mid-Autumn festival!

The July issue of Elle (Hong Kong) (S$12.84) comes with a free pair of flip flops.

I liked the colourful print on the flip flops but the quality was frankly quite mediocre with some parts of the print already coming off.

I also got the August issue of Spring (S$16.40) as it comes with a Gelato Pique zip pouch, scrunchie and handkerchief made of cotton and polyester.

The material makes the accessories look kind of old though.

Here are some of the Gelato Pique accessories that I've collected from various Japanese magazines.

My favourite remains this pair of hair accessories that were included in an earlier issue of Spring. The fluffy material is known as "moco moco" in Gelato Pique lingo.

More x Gelato Pique

Picked up the July issue of More (S$19.60) at Kinokuniya today as it comes with a large Gelato Pique tote bag and Pantene Pro-V Extra Damage Care Shampoo (40ml) and Conditioner (40ml).

The tote bag is made of polyester with PVC coating. It feels quite well made with neat stitching and can fit the magazine comfortably with room for more stuff.

The magazine is awfully bulky when you buy it (about 2 inches thick) as the Pantene bottles come in a large cardboard box, which is just such a terrible waste of paper. You can remove the outer cover with the attached Pantene box, as the magazine actually has an identical cover under the outer cover. The magazine itself is about 1cm thick.

When I was at Kino in the early afternoon on Saturday, there were only about 10 copies of More left but perhaps there were more copies in the back as Kino usually brings in quite a large quantity of More. In any case, I think this is definitely one of the better magazine supplements and well worth the cover price!

Sweet x Gelato Pique

Picked up the new issues of Allure, Sweet and Bea's Up at Kinokuniya today.

Sweet (S$19.30) comes with a Gelato Pique mini bag. The exterior of the bag is coated with a waterproof material, making this perfect for the beach. The bag is made of polyester and PVC. You can view a video clip on the magazine website.

As you can see, it's fairly roomy.

The sides of the bag, inner pockets are all made of a mesh material. Overall, the bag is quite well-made. The colour scheme is very similar to the toiletries case that comes with the Gelato Pique mook.

The magazine is quite pricey but it's about one inch thick with 417 pages chock full of all the latest Japanese fashion collections.

The next issue of Sweet will come with a Hello Kitty x Fleece's Shop "preppy tote".
