Addiction Website Update

The Addiction website has been updated with the Tough Love collection for Fall 2015. Below is the video clip on the shooting of the ad visual.

To commemorate the launch, Addiction is giving away this limited edition black Case I with in-store purchase of 7000yen (including 2 eyeshadows) and the red Case II with purchase of 10,000yen (including 2 eyeshadows) starting from 7 August. The new eyeshadow formula is fragrance-free and contains centifolia rose extract for moisturising benefits.

Between 7 August and 31 October, customers who purchase all 99 new eyeshadows will receive a custom-made tray for the eyeshadows.
In an interview with Voce magazine, Addiction Creative Director Ayako said that in creating this collection, she wanted to return to the brand's origins as a makeup artist brand. She was driven by the desire to create colours that were sought after by makeup artists and hard to find in the market, such as brown shades without red tones. She cited her experience in working with Hollywood actresses who did not like red-toned browns as well as models with tanned skin who required blackish brown tones. The new line-up also offers a comprehensive range of beige and brown hues in a variety of finishes, as these are usually indispensable for anyone who wants to do makeup. Ayako also personally selected all the English shade names such as Boy Toy and Cry Baby, as she felt that these were more interesting than saying that one was wearing shade 'Beige-3'.

Addiction Fall 2015

According to Fumi Uchida, the upcoming Addiction new 99-shade eyeshadow lineup retains 38 shades from the existing line. However, although the shade names for these 38 will remain the same, there seems to be subtle changes in the shades due to the reformulation.

Head over here to see Creative Director Ayako's suggestions for composing a 9-shade palette under various themes such as Material Girl, Tough Love, My Baby, Trust Me etc.

Revlon Photoready Eye Art

Once in awhile comes along a makeup product that is so laughably awful that one wonders how did it make it past any form of quality testing. Suckered in by the 40% off discount at Ulta and these ad visuals featuring Olivia Wilde, I picked up two Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art Lid + Line + Lash in 020 Lilac Luster and 060 Peach Prism. These retail usually at US$9.99 each.

The concept is simple enough - a pigmented cream eyeshadow on one end with a slightly flattened sponge applicator and a super sparkly (read: chock-full of glitter) shade on the other end with a slim tapered applicator that can be used over the cream shade, as an eyeliner or on the lashes.

Both Lilac Luster and Peach Prism looked dazzling in the tube with the former containing a mix of purple and pink glitter and the latter containing glitter that flashed gold, pink and lime.

The cream shade applies quite well at first but any attempt to layer it for greater intensity results in patchy unevenness. The glitter shade felt like applying glitter glue to the lids. It felt cooling at first before I realised to my horror that the folds of my eyelids were becoming stuck to one another. Like the cream shade, the glitter shade was virtually impossible to apply evenly all over the lids. The result was, to put it bluntly, a hot mess. I had creases in my eyelids that did not exist previously with the glitter migrated randomly all over. After a few hours, my eyelid had developed even more weird (and uncomfortable) creases and the cream eyeshadow had disappeared completely from the space right next to my lashes.

Even trying to use the glitter shade simply as an eyeliner along the lashline was an abject failure. It was only when I was removing my makeup did I see that there was a long strand of glitter dangling from the inner corner of my eye. It had peeled off from my lower lashline, perhaps in a desperate attempt to escape being part of this hot mess.

Removing this atrocity felt like rubbing sandpaper over my abused eyelids.

Verdict: Burn it. Revlon, you are dead to me.
