Majolica Majorca News

Picked up the December issue of Maquia yesterday and the Christmas collections catalog had pictures of the whole MM holiday collection. There are two Majolook palettes, one in shades of white and silver and the other in shades of pink and white. The pink palette looks paler than RS352 and not as red-toned as RD332. The silver palette also looks very pale, and there is no purple-toned shade (unlike the earlier pic that I had posted), which was disappointing for me. There will also be three new limited edition nailpolishes in SV831 Iceberg (氷山), PK132 Snowmelt (雪解け水) and BK933 Snowy Night (雪の夜). On the whole, I think last year's Christmas Majolook palettes were much prettier.

Anyway, moving on.... here's the scoop on the Spring 2008 collection due out on 21 January! Yes, I know that's still several months away! There will be a revamped version of Lash Enamel Glamour, three new Majolook (Trick) eyeshadow quads of which one will be limited edition, 3 new Honey Pump Glosses in pink, beige and red. The new Majolooks have a butterfly imprint on the lid. There will be a blue-toned palette, another in pink/mauve and the third in shades of brown. The butterfly theme sounds intriguing! I haven't been a big fan of Majolica Majorca's 2007 collections, especially the Majolook (Line Impact) series which had the strangest color combinations so I'm hoping that 2008 will bring a much more interesting line-up from Majolica Majorca.

Maquia December

Maquia's December issue features a pull-out catalog on the Christmas collections, a booklet on hair arrangement tips, a feature on concealer application tips and eye makeup tutorials for the holiday season. You can get a sneak peek into some of the pages inside the magazine here.

I love this smokey eye look on model Maya using YSL's Ombre Duo Lumiere #9, Anna Sui Liquid Eye Color #100 and Cle de Peau Ombre Couleur #114.

Est Makeup Range Debut

Est is a high-end department store brand owned by Kao. Currently, Est has only skincare and base makeup but come this holiday season, Est will launch its color makeup range, including brushes, on 24 November. The Est Emotional Aura Collection holiday coffret will retail for 14,175yen and includes one Emotional Aura Lips, an Emotional Aura Palette and an Emotional Aura Cheeks packaged in an original makeup box. Body Shop Holiday Collection

Body Shop is a long-time favourite of mine for yummy scented body care products. This holiday season, Body Shop will be launching a Rich Plum body care collection as well as a holiday makeup collection that features bronze and gold tones. I'm not usually a big fan of Body Shop makeup but I do like the look of the Gold Sparkle Coffret, especially the yellow powder puff! Majolica Majorca Christmas Collection

More pics of the Majolica Majorca Christmas collection from 2Channel! These pics were taken from Mina magazine. The collection will be launched in Japan on 21 November and it includes the Lash Freeze glitter mascara (1260yen), Snow Carat Face Powder (1470yen) and new Majolook Line Impact palettes. I'm not a big fan of glitter mascaras and I already have way too many shimmery face powders so this is probably another collection that I can skip... phew!

Biteki & Voce December

Biteki's December issue has a 17-page feature on Christmas coffret sets and limited edition items that the magazine is giving away to 100 lucky readers. Check it out here. Nothing really new but there's a clearer pic of the Integrate lip palette, Lip Selection Select Pink (1680yen) on page 5. This issue also comes with sample sachets of the original Shiseido Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner and the new White Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair.


Voce's December issue has the usual Christmas collections catalogue, in-depth features on moisturising, brow makeup techniques, plus beauty, hair, nail and bodycare tips for the party season. Both magazines should be available at Kinokuniya (Singapore) from Wednesday onwards.

Suqqu Holiday Palette

Suqqu's limited edition "Happy"-themed Christmas palette (12,600yen) is a collaboration with noted Japanese modern artist Katsuhiko Hibino. It will be released in Japan on 2 November. The cartoon illustration is quite unusual for Suqqu and I can't really imagine its typical middle-aged customer whipping this out of their handbags! Check out the holiday collection website here.

Paul & Joe Website Update

The Paul & Joe website has been updated with the Christmas collection. The interesting thing is that there is a new Collection Sparkles collection, "Invitation", on the English website which is not on the Japanese website, which means that Japan will not be getting the Collection Sparkles, while the Japan market will be getting an Eye Color and Moisture Gel Kit with a red and black floral print bag that is not featured on the English website. Last year, the US and UK also got the Scene Stealer collection which was not released in Japan. I'm lemming Lipstick CS N 301 RSVP, a "seriously sexy adult red" and the Face Color Powder CS N #201, a "sexy feminine pink and a shimmering smoky plum"!

Aube Christmas Collection

Some of you may know that Aube's Jewellery Shower Eyes series is one of my favourite Japanese eyeshadow palette series and I've also CP'd it for numerous people, most of whom adore it too. So I'm kind of sad that the Jewellery Shower Eyes EX02 is likely to be the last new palette in the series since Aube will introduce a new series, Impression Eyes, starting Spring 2008. Here are some pics of the Aube Christmas collection pamphlet from 2Channel. The EX02 palette looks lovely with smokey grey and bronzey gold shades. There will also be a new Sparkling Color Powder in 2 shades, the usual pink and gold. I'll probably get the EX02 palette just because it will probably be the last addition to the Jewellery Shower Eyes series.

Sonia Rykiel Sparkling Face Color

Here's a close-up picture of Sonia Rykiel's Sparkling Face Color (3150yen, 3 shades). The price is more affordable compared to Guerlain Meteorites but judging by the shallow depth of the Sonia Rykiel tubs, you're also getting a lot less in terms of actual product.

Bobbi Brown Pink Quartz Collection

Bobbi Brown will be launching its Pink Quartz collection in Japan on 1 December, just in time for the holidays. I think this collection may already on sale in the US. I'll probably check out the Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick but I doubt it will be nicer than Peony Shimmer Brick which I've totally fallen in love with since picking it up at Woodbury Common CCO back in September. The shades in Pink Quartz look much paler than Peony which means they will be probably be good only as highlighters.

Aube Spring 2008

Few of the Christmas collections have really caught my fancy this year so I've been impatiently awaiting news of the Spring 2008 collections as spring is usually the season in which most Japanese brands launch their largest collections for the year and introduce new product lines (such as a new eyeshadow palette series). Well, here's the very first glimpse of a Spring 2008 collection from Aube, which is Sofina's flagship mid-end makeup brand that is retailed in both drugstores and department stores in Japan. Aube is one of the few remaining makeup brands that are still regularly discounted by up to 30% in Japanese drugstores so its products are much more affordable compared to its competitors in the same price range such as Maquillage and Esprique Precious.

The collection will include:
1. Rouge Pure Stay longlasting lipstick
2. Impression Eyes: 5 palettes in brown, green, blue, purple and pink
3. Pon Pon Cheek: 3 shades in pink, red and orange (basically a knock-off of the YSL blush pots with the sponge applicator)
4. Mascara

The above are all permanent. There will also be a small limited edition collection that includes Jewellery Shower Eyes EX02 (white, brown and smokey grey ), Rouge Moisture lipgloss and a highlight powder. Unfortunately, one of my favourite Aube products, Glamorous Jewel Powder will be discontinued with the launch of the new Pon Pon Cheeks so do grab these before they are gone.

Lavshuca Winter Collection

Here's a much better picture of the two limited edition Lavshuca winter palettes that will be released on 1 November! The cover looks like a lace motif with the Lavshuca logo. This is definitely going onto my shopping list! This is also the first time that Lavshuca has put out face palettes so the collectability factor is another plus!

Jill Stuart Mook

Jill Stuart has published a so-called "mook" (short for magazine book) that retails for 1260yen and comes with a round compact mirror. Here's a link to a pic of the mirror. The mook features the latest JS clothes, bags, watches, shoes, makeup and skincare for Autumn/Winter along with the current ad campaign featuring Lindsay Lohan. The cover girl is popular Japanese model Rinka, who is also the Aube spokesmodel. It can also be ordered on Amazon Japan. Other designer brands that have published similar mooks that are usually accompanied by a novelty item are Tsumori Chisato and Cath Kidston.

Kinokuniya in Ngee Ann City (Singapore) had about 4 copies yesterday, selling for about S$28 which is a bit pricey especially if you only want the mirror. The mirror has a plastic cover that swivels outwards and is studded with one cheap-looking crystal above the JS logo. It is definitely not as well made as the limited edition round compact mirror that was heavily studded with crystals that JS had released earlier this year but if you like collecting JS novelty items, then you may want to hunt this down before Kinokuniya sells out. Kinokuniya has the mirror on display in a plastic box near the Japanese comics section.
