Majolica Majorca Summer '08

Sneak peek of theMajolica Majorca Summer '08 collection which is set to be released on 21 April in Japan. Powder Heat Metallic (1470yen) is a limited edition bronze shimmer face powder with four types of pearl and glitter powders, that I'm guessing is the summer version of the Snow Carat Powder that was released for Christmas '07. There will also be a new limited edition Lash Heat Mascara (1260yen), and some nail polishes in the collection.

Maikohan Blush & Kabuki Brush

Maikohan is a drugstore cosmetic brand inspired by the geishas of Kyoto and made by Sana, which also makes Excel. Maikohan will be launching two new striped blushers (1890yen) and a limited edition kabuki brush (1890yen) on 25 March.

Kate Summer '08

Katewill be releasing its summer collection on 1 May in Japan. There will be a new Rouge Trance S lipstick series in 8 shades (1470yen), which is a revamped version of their Rouge Trance N. Rouge Trance S is a glossy, high-shine lipstick in a new silver square tube that promises to keep lips moisturised as it contains jojoba oil and almond oil. Fans of Kate's Dual Carat Eyeshadows will be delighted to know that there will be 3 new shades of the Dual Carats!

Prescriptives Mascara Videos

Check out these videos of Prescriptives Director of Artistry Jillian Veran recommending their various mascaras. The bloopers at the end of the videos from the shoot are especially hilarious!

I've only bought a few items from Prescriptives before, none of which particularly impress me but I still like the hi-tech sensibility of the line and its sleek modern packaging. Right now, I'm lemming the new Anywear Multi-purpose Makeup Stick even though I NEVER use foundation sticks as they will probably clog up my acne-prone skin. What's special about the Px version is that you get two portable mini sticks, one for keeping at home and another to bring along with you for on-the-go touch ups. Great idea, isn't it? It also comes in 24 shades with UVA/UVB broad spectrum protection of SPF15. It's oil-free with aloe extract and Vitamin E to soothe your skin.

Sounds so lovely except that Prescriptives pulled out of all Asian countries a few years ago, so it's out of reach for people like me. Guess Asia wasn't important enough for them!

Paul & Joe Website Update

Promo visual for the new Paul & Joe Protective Dual Powder Foundation UV (SPF23 PA++, 5250yen). It is a two-way foundation that can be applied with either a wet or dry sponge. Available in 6 shades, it promises a natural finish while keeping skin moisturised and protected from sun damage. Also new out is the Protective Foundation Primer UV (SPF40, PA++, 3675yen).

The initial reviews on Cosme.net for the Protective Dual Powder Foundation UV are much better than for Jill Stuart's Smooth Silk Powder Foundation, with one reviewer even awarding the P&J foundation the maximum 7 stars. Most of the reviews praised the excellent coverage of pores and skin redness, plus the fact that even after several hours of wear, the foundation maintained its natural beautiful finish. Reviews for the new primer are much less glowing though with most of the reviews disliking the thick creamy texture of the primer which was not easy to apply, strong fragrance and lack of coverage although some reviewers thought that it worked well when used with the new foundation.

Jill Stuart Website Update

The Jill Stuart website has been updated with the new Smooth Silk Powder Foundation (SPF 20, PA++) set to be released on 7 March in Japan. The website also now has an English version but aside from listing the products in the range, it doesn't have detailed information on the individual products.

The Smooth Silk Powder Foundation is formulated with "Pure Crystal Powder" and a "Soft Focus Powder" for creating an smooth silk-like even finish while reducing the appearance of pores. It also contains almond oil and wild rose extract to help keep skin moisturised. It also has a "Crystal Floral Bouquet" aroma. Most of Jill Stuart's products have a distinctive floral scent, even their eyeshadows so if you're very sensitive to fragrance, these may not work for you. Personally, I like the fragrance as it's not too overpowering and doesn't linger long after application. It's available in only 5 shades so if your skin tone is very pale or tan, it may be difficult to find a colour match. It also has a matte finish unlike the current Powder Foundation which has micro sparkles.

There are only a handful of reviews on Cosme.net currently by ladies who tried out samples of the foundation. The reviews are mostly lukewarm with the most common complaint being that the foundation was not good at covering up pores and required touching up after a few hours. On the plus side, the finish was natural and did not make skin look too powdery dry.
