Paul & Joe Spring 2018

Now that autumn is finally here, it's time for previews of the Spring 2018 collections! First up is Paul & Joe with yet another variation of their favourite feline theme but with a retro twist in the form of eyeshadow cards made to look like vintage records. Due out on 5 January in Japan, the Face & Eye Color CS #113 April in Paris and #114 French Pop (2500yen) each include three shades. #113 is composed of pink ivory, fresh green and warm red while #114 includes petal pink, pop pink and spring coral. Paul & Joe Holiday 2017

Paul & Joe is rehashing their favourite cat theme for their annual holiday coffret set for release on 1 November in Japan. The kit includes a champagne red lip shade, a powder blush and liquid eye colour. The cat print on the pouch is utterly unappealing so it's another complete pass for me. Pic by Tomoichi.

Paul & Joe Fall 2017 Base Makeup and Isetan Shinjuku Exclusive

Paul & Joe will release its new Liquid Foundation (4500yen) and Pressed Face Powder (4000yen for refill, 1500yen for case) on 1 September in Japan. The bird print case is limited edition.

There will be a special Paul & Joe Circus pop-up store at Isetan Shinjuku in Tokyo from 26-31 July to mark the launch of its new lipstick line. Fans of their cat lipsticks will be pleased to know that these are finally part of the permanent line in the form of a shimmery pearlescent lipstick and a hydrating lip treatment.


There will be seven lipstick cases (1000yen each) exclusively available at this event, as well as a Lipstick Trio set (8500yen) that include a Lipstick Treatment and Lipstick N in the limited edition shades C01 and C02.


Below are exclusive gift boxes with any purchase of the Lipstick Trio.

Here's a sneak peek at the Paul & Joe Summer 2017 collection featuring yet more feline prints. Debuting on 1 May in Japan are three Colorful Palettes (4000yen), a lipgloss that adjusts to your natural lip color (2500yen) and three Watery Cheek gel blushes (3000yen) in a round pot. Paul & Joe Summer 2017 15th Anniversary Collection

Paul & Joe goes for more kooky feline madness in its upcoming 15th Anniversary Makeup Collection (9500yen) launching on 7 April in Japan. The set includes six cat-shaped face and eye colours, a lipstick and a metal tin that can house three of the face colours plus the lipstick. Pics by Osadanna.

The set is a pass for me as I just don't see myself having the luxury of time to faff around with those dinky little cats. The recycled cat and chrysanthemum prints are also a bit of a bore.


There will also be a new Sun Protection Gel Milk SPF50+ PA++++ and Sun Cream SPF10 PA+ (2800yen, 75g) launching on the same date.

Voce x Paul & Joe Gift with Apr 2017 Issue

Voce has a deluxe Paul & Joe Beauty freebie set lined up for its April 2017 issue (on sale on 23 February in Japan). It includes a metal accessory tin, samples of its upcoming new Eclat Teint Gel Foundation N #102, Protecting Foundation Primer S 01, Oil (2 sachets), Herbal Lotion (2 sachets) and Facial Cotton (2 pads). Online retailers such as Amazon Japan have already started taking reservations.

Paul & Joe Cleansing Gel

Paul & Joe will release this new Cleansing Gel (3500yen, 160g) on 1 March in Japan. Formulated with olive oil and parsley extract, the textures transforms upon contact with skin. Pic by Voce. Paul & Joe New Gel Foundation N

Paul & Joe will introduce their new Gel Foundation N (4000yen for refill, 1800yen for case) on 1 March in Japan. This improved version is supposed to have better coverage and enhanced skincare benefits thanks to the inclusion of marine collagen, theanine and snow fungus extract. Pic from Voce.

Previously, I used to faithfully snap up all the Paul & Joe seasonal collections but over the past year, this love affair has turned tepid as it seems like they are mostly recycling their products with different (albeit still fabulously cute) packaging and working the kitten theme to death. I still find their quirky aesthetic and prints to be a refreshing change from the sea of MAC-clones out there but they should work on improving their product quality and innovation as well. The holiday advent calendar could have been a real game-changer if they could have been bothered to actually put 24 decent products in it, instead of the measly six.

Paul & Joe Holiday 2016

Here's a sneak peek of the Paul & Joe Holiday 2016 collection, Marché de Noël inspired by Europe's famous Christmas markets. Launching on 1 November in Japan, the Makeup Collection 2016 is an advent calendar with 24 windows concealing various delights such as a Lip Essence 6ml, cat-shaped Eye Color Limited (4x1.3g), a Powder Blush 4g and a Lipstick 3g.
