RMK Deep Iridescent Eyes Review

During my last trip to Selfridges in London, I picked up two of the new RMK Deep Iridescent Eyes (£26) and a Creamy Sheer Powder Cheeks 03 Coral Orange (£26) from the fall collection, Deep Iridescence.

The limited edition Deep Iridescent Eyes are formulated with polarised pearlescent particles. According to the product description, the darker shade delivers a lucent black tone ideal for the base shade whilst the light tone magnifies the characteristic of black for a deep, impactful finish. 04 Deep Purple features a smoky purple paired with a pale icy lavender.

Many of RMK's earlier eyeshadows tend to be ultra sheer so I was pleasantly surprised that the Deep Iridescent Eyes were easy to build up to a gentle smoky finish with a soft shimmer. The eyeshadow also have an exceptionally velvety texture that is very easy to pick up with the included applicator. The pic above was taken under normal room lighting conditions while the pic below was taken under a spotlight so the sparkles show up more vividly.

The shimmer is very fine, so it doesn't look like obvious chunky glitter. The two purple shades are also understated enough to wear during the day. The translucent quality prized by Japanese beauty brands is very much evident here.

Used with a good primer like Too Faced Shadow Insurance, the eyeshadows lasted pretty well throughout the day although they did look a touch duskier at the end of the day. There was a bit of fallout throughing the application process but this was easily remedied.

06 Deep Green contains a blackened green and a medium green.

Like Deep Purple, the combination is actually very easy to wear as the shades are not too crazily pigmented or loud. The refined shimmer provides a subtle sparkle that isn't too distracting. Creating a gradational look with just one of these duos couldn't be simpler. Just add eyeliner and mascara, and you're pretty much done.

Creamy Sheer Powder Cheeks are a new addition to the permanent range. Each consists of a tone-correcting cream and a vibrant powder blush to be layered on top. 03 Coral Orange includes a pale yellow cream shade and a rosy coral. Both are extremely smooth to touch and used together, they give the cheeks a smooth glowy pop of colour.

The brushes included in both the Deep Iridescent Eyes and Creamy Sheer Powder Cheeks are excellent, with zero scratchiness. Being RMK, these are on the pricey side but the luxurious product quality and ultra sleek packaging make them well worth the price tag. RMK is available on BeautyBay.com which ships internationally for free.

Sights of Berne

Yesterday, we visited Berne, the capital of Switzerland situated along the Aare river. It was a gorgeous sunny day, surprisingly warm for October.

The first stop we made was a rose garden overlooking the city. In the distance laid the snow capped mountain ranges.

Several of the rose plants were still in bloom. Though as not as resplendent as earlier in the summer, we still came across some unusual beauties.

The Clock Tower in the old town.

The majestic Cathedral of Berne.

The Federal Palace where the federal parliament sits.

At an open-air market, we came across this stall selling cucumbers of the strangest variety. Spiky ones, furry ones and even some shaped like gourds.

Although it was a Saturday, the city was not overly crowded, even in the old town which has lots of shops and major brands. It was also pretty easy to navigate on foot. It is a charming city that is well worth a day trip if you are in the vicinity.

Lush Christmas in stores

Nothing says Christmas is coming quite like Lush!

This year's holiday collection is a dazzling visual treat of wonderfully scented goodies. It just launched this weekend in stores in the UK, as well as here in Switzerland. Santa's Sack (above) is a fizzy cola-scented bubble bar that can be divided into three pieces by pulling off the little gifts.

Inspired by traditional Mexican Christmas punch, Ponche Shower Gel is described as being "bright, boozy, fruity and uplifting" with orange juice, plum and cinnamon infusions, a good shot of tequila and a fruity fragrance. It did not smell particularly alcoholic to me though, unlike last year's holiday creation Glogg which literally makes me gag each time I use it. Twilight is another limited edition shower gel that is a soothing blend of lavender and malt. Twilight is not brand new though, as it was previously available as a special for a Lush Forum party.

Snow Fairy naturally makes another appearance. It's too candy sweet for me though so I'll be skipping this. Instead, I intend to try North Pole soap which is composed of two mint fragrances: chocolate mint for the pink part and hard candy cane and mint rock for the white part. Sounds intriguing!

Summer Punch is a more fruity concoction with juniper berries, gin, blackcurrant absolute and lime oil.

Taking pride of place in the centre of the store was this gold-dusted giant slab of Snowcake Soap, a perennial favourite that returns each year only for the holiday season. I prefer the more invigorating scent of Karma soap to the marzipan and rose scent of Snowcake, but this looked simply magical.

Have you picked up anything from the Lush Christmas collection? Do let me know which products are your favourites!
