Kinokuniya Haul

Kinokuniya is offering a 20% discount this National Day weekend so I took advantage of it to pick up the new Wedding & Travel ($6) magazine which comes with a Shu Uemura whitening skincare sample set, and the August issue of Nuyou ($4) which comes with a full size Garnier Age Lift Anti-Wrinkle Firming Eye Cream and Age Lift Pro-X Anti-Aging Whitening Cream Serum that is worth $45. Both GWPs are exclusive to Kinokuniya.

The Shu set includes: White Recovery EX+ Whitening Essence 5ml, Whitening Emulsion 10ml, Brightening Cleansing Oil 8ml and UV Armor Sun Protector Face Cream SPF30 PA++ 10ml.

I also picked up Japanese model Rinka's book, "Love Myself" ($32) which contains her beauty and fashion tips, plus The Towering World of Jimmy Choo ($36.33). Some of you may remember that Rinka used to be the spokesmodel for Aube before the brand got all dowdified into Aube Couture. Although she looks incredibly youthful, Rinka is actually 36 this year. She has perfected that kawaii (cute) princess style that is still enduringly popular in Japan. This book is already into its third printing. I also got the last copy on the shelf at Kino. You can check out her personal blog here

Review: Kenzoki Clear Eyelid & Lash Gel

I received a full size bottle of Kenzoki's Clear Eyelid & Lash Gel as a GWP with one of my earlier Kenzo hauls. Finally finished it yesterday so I thought I would review it here.

It has a light gel texture that feels cool upon application and removes most eye makeup quickly and easily with just a few gentle wipes with a cotton pad. MAC's Pearlglide Eyeliner came off quite easily with this but for waterproof mascara, I would recommend either an oil cleanser or a waterproof makeup remover. What really endeared it to me was the relaxing lotus aroma, which was a lovely relief at the end of a long day at the office. It is very pricey at S$43 (if I recall correctly) so I doubt I will purchase it as there are other cleansers that are just as effective but at a fraction of the price (e.g L'Oreal Gentle Eye Makeup Remover). Hopefully, it makes another appearance in a GWP in the future :-)

Chic #2

The second issue of Chic was launched earlier this week and I picked my up copy at (where else?!) Kinokuniya, which was giving away an Original Source shower gel in either Rose & Aloe, Zingly Lime or Almond Coconut. I picked Rose & Aloe, which smelled pretty good.

At only S$2.80, Chic is a truly worthwhile buy with 78 pages chockful of the latest stylish buys in fashion, makeup and more. And what's even better is that it is published twice monthly (every first and third Friday of the month), so you don't have to wait one whole month for the next issue.

Here are some of the features in this issue!

RMK Website Update

RMK's website has also been updated with the new fall collection, Autumn Mystique. Check out the video clip of the shooting of the promo visual featuring Denisa Dvorakova as photographed by Michael Thompson, who frequently shoots the covers of Allure magazine.

Shu Uemura x Tsumori Chisato

The Voce editor's blog has a sneak peek of Shu Uemura's holiday collection which is a collaboration with famed Japanese designer, Tsumori Chisato who is known for her quirky bohemian prints. The collection appears to have a star theme.

Actually, the most attractive item to me in this pic is the black makeup case with the pink star print! Hope it will be sold as part of the collection.

The palette cover design is a bit too childish for my taste.

Check out this blog for pics of the whole collection!

Anna Sui Website Update

The Anna Sui website has been updated with the new fall makeup collection, plus cute new downloadable wallpaper, screensaver and blog parts (like the silver moon clock on the right hand column of this blog). The ad campaign features UK supermodel Agyness Deyn.

Givenchy Nicolas Degennes

Check out this Japanese blog for a 3-minute video interview of Givenchy Makeup Artistic Director Nicolas Degennes in Japan. The interview is in English and he speaks about his makeup philosophy and the new Photo Perfection liquid foundation.

Kiehls Promos

Chanel, Maquillage, Dior Fall '09

Chanel, Maquillage, Dior and Clarins have also launched their fall collections at the local counters.

Chanel's Murano eyeshadow quad (S$83) looked incredibly pretty with a blackened emerald, a greyish green, light mint and light pink. All the shades are shimmery with good color payoff. But I rarely reach for my current collection of Chanel quads so I resisted the temptation to snap this up.

Unfortunately, I ran out of space on my hand to swatch the Maquillage fall collection. The palettes are S$69 and the lipglosses are S$39. The collection is currently on display at Isetan Scotts but I didn't see it out at Tangs Orchard yet. The palettes, in particular the two limited edition brown-themed palettes designed by Alexander Wang, are good options for ladies looking for soft basic shades that are perfect for the office.

I also saw the Dior Jazz Club display in both Isetan and Tangs but didn't swatch these. Although I've been lemming the Night Butterfly quint, I'll probably skip it as the shades are all matte, which are not really my cup of tea. The new Diorskin Nude Foundation is also available now.

I'd probably go back for the Clarins Face & Blush Duo Palette (S$65) which is a bronzer, blusher plus face powder in one nifty palette. Both the bronzer and blush are shimmery while the face powder is matte. I didn't manage to get a photo of it but here's a pic from the Voce catalog.

And finally, here's a pic of the RMK makeover area in Isetan Scotts.

MAC Love That Look & Euristocrats Swatches

Try as I may to stay away from the MAC counter, my interest was still piqued by the new Euristocrats 2 and Love That Look collections which have just arrived at Tangs and Isetan.

Love That Look introduces 12 limited edition eyeshadows in the Starflash formula which is buttery smooth, pigmented with a metallic finish. I only swatched Rated R (bright yellow green), Strike A Pose (dirty deep blue green), Smoke & Diamonds (frosty gray taupe) and Glamour Check (frosty reddish brown). Glamour Check is the shade at the bottom of the left column and the other three shades are in the right column.

There are also 4 limited edition Pearlglide Liners (S$27), all repromotes from an earlier collection, Suite Array. I couldn't resist picking up Fly By Blu (medium blue with blue glitter) and Rave (deep purple with purple glitter). The shades are intense with a lovely metallic glint. They are also extremely long-lasting! I couldn't even rub them off with a piece of tissue. I had to use an oil cleanser and scrub at these a bit in order to get them off.

Euristocrats comprises 7 Dazzleglasses, 7 lipsticks and 4 lip pencils. I liked the lipsticks in the Lustre formula which are glossy and feel nicely moisturising. These apply sheer at first but can be easily layered for greater intensity.

From left to right:
Naked Paris - Mid-tone brown with multi deminsional pearlized pigments Lustre)
Milan Mode - Deep pink with multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Lustre)
Patisserie - Creamy neutral pink (Lustre)

The Dazzleglasses are intensely sparkly as always but according to MUA reviews, these get used up in a flash especially if you have tend to re-apply a few times a day. My favourite is Date Night (deep plum with blue and gold pearl, third shade from the right in the pic below), which is a permanent shade. But I just have too many lipglosses so I passed on it for now.

From left to right: Rue de Rouge, Vie Veneto, Internationalist, Euro Beat, Roman Holiday and Local Color.

Shu Uemura Primitribe

I dropped by Isetan Scotts today and to my surprise, found that several counters had already launched their fall collections. The Shu Uemura Primitribe collection is out at both Isetan and Tangs Orchard. The bold vibrant colors of this collection may scare some ladies off but the blush duos, lipsticks and Primal Color Sticks are actually very wearable shades.

Primal Mix Blush in Rhythm is a standard velvety matte baby pink shade paired with a shimmery peach. The blushes have fairly good color payoff. The shades on the left side are matte while the shades on the right side are more glowy. The shimmer is very fine and subtle. None of the shades really appealed to me though.

From top to bottom: Echo, Soul and Rhythm.

The Primal Colour Sticks are a cream eyeshadow that turn to powder upon application. They actually feel quite dry upon application without much slip. But once applied, the color payoff is good and the finish indeed feels more like powder without any greasiness of stickiness. Blazed Gold looked the prettiest under the counter lights with a lovely shimmer. Rich Earth also has some shimmer while Night Maroon is matte.

Fancl 30th anniversary

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Fancl has released its ever popular Washing Powder and powder puff in a limited edition Princess design by German illustrator Irma.

The yellow bottle is for normal to dry skin types while the white bottle is for oily skin types and only 116,000 and 28,000 bottles of these two were produced respectively. The powder puff is even scarcer with only 22,000 units available. Hopefully some of these will make an appearance in Singapore.

Fancl will also release its fall makeup collection on 20 August in Japan.

Back to normal!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. Aside from not being particularly inspired by anything, I have been frustrated with my Blogger account acting up over the past 2 weeks with all the post formatting buttons gone. So I actually had to rely on my boyfriend in India to help me post the pictures for various blog posts.

After trawling through the Blogger help forums, I finally discovered the problem was with my internet service provider and thanks to the tips from some helpful souls, I have finally gotten my Blogger account working like normal.

Time to get back to my fall lemmings! Top of the list is Tarte Femme Fatale palette, thanks to this pic by MUA member niclyf. It retails for US$44 but you can get a 30% discount code if you sign up for the Tarte e-newsletter.

Niclyf's pics of the new Dior Night Butterfly quint and Givenchy Poetique Blues here also make them look incredibly tempting!
