Canmake New Collection

Japanese makeup brands excel in producing great eyeliners that are both easy to use and long lasting without being too tough to remove. It is recommended for ladies with double eyelids and who wish to create a more dramatic, sexy look while Perfect Black Liner is a felt pen liner that is easy to use even for beginngers. Perfect Black Liner is recommended for ladies with single or double eyelids and who wish to create a more romantic, cute look. The two eyeliners come in only black and both contain extracts of rosemary, aloe vera and chamomile. There is also a trio of nude nail polishes for creating the perfect polished, French manicure.

Coffret D'Or: Close-Up Look

This author of this Japanese blog has uploaded close-up pics of the testers for Coffret D'Or's spring collection, including all 5 eyeshadow palettes and lipstick series. She gave the line a positive review overall, noting that the eyeshadow palettes are easier to wear as they are not as intensely shimmery as T'estimo eyeshadow palettes. But personally, these are not tempting me at all as the shades look lacklustre and I hate it when palettes have the same white base shade in every palette...such a waste of space!

Aube Christmas

Aube has put up its Christmas website here. Nothing too exciting on it at the moment though.

http://www.sofina.co.jp/aube/christmas/

Biteki November Issue

Picked up the November issue of Biteki ($13.60) at Kinokuniya yesterday. The new issues of Maquia, Voce, CanCam, Vivi and Ray had all arrived as well. Biteki comes with a brown mesh zip pouch with two sample sachets of Est Lift Support Deepeffector (cream) and Lift Support Multieffector (a gel serum). The features include a spotlight on three designer makeup brands, Paul & Joe, Jill Stuart and Anna Sui; makeup tutorials on how to line the lower eyelid for different impact, creating a soft, feminine look; and even an article examining the benefits of applying skincare with bare hands versus using cotton pads!

There is also a detailed makeup tutorial for the grey and pink-themed cover look which used Jill Stuart Brilliance Eyes #6 Glazed Garnet, Esprique Precious Eye Color Select BR301, Estee Lauder Brilliant Shimmer Face Powder #4, Lunasol High Stylize Mascara EL #1, Integrate Live FIx Rouge BE291, Elegance Comfiture Gloss #4 and Dior Nail Polish #183. Here's a brief summary:

1. Brush the grey shade (2nd from right) in JS Brilliance Eyes #6 from the lash line to the crease area in a gradational way, i.e. with the greatest intensity at the lash line and more sheer as you move upwards.

2. Using the same grey shade, line the lower eyelid from the outer corner to about two-thirds of the way towards the inner corner.

3. Brush the Esprique Precious eyeshadow as a highlight shade under the brow.

4. Use the darkest shade from the JS Brilliance Eyes palette to line the upper lashline.

5. Brush the light pink shade (on extreme left) in JS Brilliance Eyes #6 in a triangular shaped area just under the inner corner of the eyes for a brightening effect.

6. Apply the Lunasol mascara.

7. Mix the shades in the Estee Lauder face powder and brush it on the apples of the cheeks.

8. Apply the Integrate lipstick followed by the Elegance lipgloss.

The December issue of Biteki will not only feature the Christmas collections but it will also include samples of the new Tsubaki Golden Repair shampoo and conditioner (white series). Check out the new Tsubaki commercial here featuring 6 Japanese actresses.

Gransenbon New Collection

Another new promo visual for Gransenbon's new collection featuring two new eyeshadow palettes and Pore Cover Powder. The Pore Cover Powder has rose fruit extract for preventing enlarged pores and blackheads; rose extract for anti-inflammation; and ceramide-3, jojoba oil and olive oil for moisturising benefits. It's a pity that Gransenbon has one of the most unsophisticated websites for a Japanese brand!

Canmake Foundation & Base

New promo visual for Canmake's new Bright Up Base SPF15 PA++ (945yen) and Essence In Foundation SPF18 PA++ (1050yen). The tagline is "beautiful skin that makes one want to touch it". The foundation has a velvety cream texture that spreads easily and provides coverage of pores, skin discolorations and even fine lines. It contains moisturising ingredients such as extracts of horse chestnut and peony plus extracts of luffa and aloe vera as "treatment ingredients". It is also free of fragrance, mineral oil, parabens and alcohol. The Bright Up Base is a pinky beige primer formulated with satin pearl and it is suitable for a wide range of skintones from the very fair to more tanned skintones. Aside from the extracts of horse chestnut, luffa, aloe vera and peony, it also contains extracts of witch hazel and hawthorne to help tone skin.

Coffret D'Or: First Look

Pics of Kanebo's forthcoming new brand Coffret D'Or (which will be replacing T'estimo) can be viewed on this Japanese blog. The palettes shown are 3D Lighting Eyes #3 (navy x gold) and #4 (purple) and the lipsticks are Full Styling Rouge (Glow) and Full Styling Rouge (Color). According to the blog review, the eyeshadows have a lovely shimmer and the shades are flattering and easy to use, as is typical of Kanebo. They come in a slim, pink crystal-encrusted case that has a smooth even surface, unlike the T'estimo Frame Impact and Grande Shine Eyes palettes which had a weird outward dent on the lid, and hence is much easier to stack neatly. The texture of the lipsticks is similar to T'estimo Serum Drape Rouge.

Coffret D'Or will be launched officially in Japan on 16 December and will reportedly have 5 spokesmodels like Maquillage.

Kate Sweet Manish

Kate's website currently features a "Sweet Manish" makeup tutorial.

Dual Carat BR3 is used all over the eye area followed by using Liquid Eyeliner N BK1 to draw a line about 5mm thick along the upper lash line. The jagged lines along the lower lashline are created using Super Sharp Liner BK1. Designing Eyebrow N BR4 is used to defined the brows, followed by Liquid Eyebrow BR1 to add the finishing touches. Finally, Cheek Color N OR1 is brushed on the apples of the cheeks.

Estee Lauder x Tokyo Tower

If you happen to be in Tokyo on 1 October, don't miss the annual pink lightup of Tokyo Tower sponsored by the Estee Lauder Group as part of their breast cancer awareness campaign. The light-up will take place from 6pm to 10pm on Monday, 1 October.

On a separate note, my heartfelt thanks to everyone for their prayers and good wishes for my mother. Thankfully, her cancer turned out to be Stage 1 so there is a high chance of a full recovery.

Susie NY Covering Control Base

Susie NY's revamped line of color correctors, Covering Control Base (1680yen,20g) promises to conceal pores and correct skin discolorations to create a natural, flawless look. These come in a mineral oil and fragrance-free formula that is unlikely to irritate skin. They also contain SPF 15 and PA++ for sun protection. Available in four shades, #1 Yellow, #2 Green, #3 Pink Beige and #4 Blue, Covering Control Base will be launched on 25 October.

Bea's Up

The new October issue of Bea's Up ($12.60) is now available at Kinokuniya in Singapore. The features include recommendations on the new autumn/winter foundations for creating a glowy bare-skin look versus a flawless look with heavier coverage, tips for combating different types of acne, makeup tutorials featuring affordable drugstore brands and a separate booklet on eye makeup tips for ladies with single eyelids or double eyelids that start from the middle of the eye. The tips are quite difficult to comprehend just by looking at the pictures alone if you don't understand Japanese so I wouldn't say this is a must-get issue. The November issue will feature the Christmas coffret sets... can't wait!
