Cutie & Sweet

I love the Takarajima group of women's magazines (InRed, Sweet, Spring, Cutie, Mini, Steady, Smart) as they include a freebie every month that is usually done in collaboration with a popular clothing brand such as Paul & Joe, Jill Stuart, Rebecca Taylor etc. The quality of the freebies does vary but in general, they are usually quite cute and the price of the magazine is far less than what you would otherwise pay for a trinket from one of these brands.

I'm looking forward to getting the new issues of Sweet and Cutie. Sweet comes with a Charlotte Ronson tote bag while Cutie comes with a pouch with a chocolate print.

Hi! I'm going to Tokyo this year and was wondering if you could recommend places to shop for make up in the Shinjuku/Tokyo area. Thanks!

Hi Joy,

You can check out my earlier post on makeup shopping in Tokyo:

http://rougedeluxe.blogspot.com/2008/09/makeup-shopping-in-tokyo.html

In Shinjuku, you can try Odakyu, Takashimaya and Isetan department stores which would cover virtually all the brands that are available.
In Shinjuku station, you should also check out the Plaza Style store in Lumine (2nd floor at the south exit of Shinjuku station), Iro-mi-ne which is also at the south exit and the usual drugstores like Matsumoto Kiyoshi and Tomods.

Have a great trip!

Hi Kimberly,
I'll do some scans if I manage to get the issues at my bookstore, hopefully this Wednesday :-)

Hi Su,

Actually I've never read Cutie before. It is mainly focused on young ladies' fashion and beauty. The new issue is on clothing coordinates for spring and also makeup tip that will supposedly transform your life. I'm more attracted by the pouch, to be honest!

You must have a wide collection of pouches, bags and other freebies with the mags! Do u hv the chance to use them all.

I bght Sweet Jan issue with your recommendation. haha, v nice pouch which ill put makeup inside whn i go out. As for the key charm thingy, what do u intend to do with it? Am not sure if it is better as a bag charm or key charm(prone to scratches), what are your thoughts? :)

Hi Su,

I prefer to hang the Jill Stuart charm on one of my bags rather than use it on my keys. As a bag charm, it's more easily visible and at the same time, not subject to as much wear and tear as a key charm.

I try to rotate usage of the pouches and charms that I collect, but certainly some just end up sitting in my cupboard!

I know Samantha Thavasa (bags & accessories) is really popular in Japan. Just wondering if any Japanese magazines are going to collaborate with them to come up with any free pouches or accessories?

Haru said...

Hi,

I haven't seen any collaborations between the magazines with Samantha Thavasa. Sometimes the mags do collaborations with Coach, to give away items such as clear folders, calendars etc.

Thanks Haru.

I think i will use mine as a bag charm too.

Look forward to hearing more of your freebie collections.

Hey Haru, do you know if Sweet is in Kino already? And how much is it? Thanks

Hi Zy,

The Kino store at Ngee Ann City has already sold out of Sweet that came in the air shipment. The sea shipment should be arriving in early February, according to the staff. I'm not sure of the price, should be around S$14-15+.
